  • Episode 6: When Data Meets Music: David Murphy

David works in IT Services as an IT Analyst in Data Services.  David has played a vital role in the creation of the UCC Data Hub.  While David’s day job is data, he is also a very successful musician. David is a multi-instrumentalist and is best known for playing the pedal steel guitar. As well as contributing to records across a range of genres, David has completed tours of Ireland, UK, Europe and U.S.A. as well as performing on live national radio and television.

In this episode we chat to David about his career in IT but also his career in music and how he uncovered his love and talent for playing the pedal steel guitar.  He also shares stories of playing in venues from St. Luke’s in Cork to Alexandra Palace in London.  We talk about technology and how it can enable music particularly musical collaborations. We hear how improved technology gave David the opportunity to record music from his studio in Cork with artists as far away as Mexico. You can find out more about David’s music in the links below:

  • Episode 5: Technology Facilitated Abuse: Awareness and Making Change Happen – Rosie Coffey

Hello and welcome to ITBytes, UCC IT Services first official podcast.  The podcast is hosted by IT Services staff members, Noelette Hurley and Deirdre Keane.   Noelette works as an IT Analyst while Deirdre is kept busy as our Communications Coordinator.  In this episode they chat to Rosie Coffey. Rosie leads up the Enterprise Solutions team in IT Services.  In this episode Rosie chats about her work as part of the National Cyber Security Awareness Task Force to tackle the growing problem of technology in gender-based crime.  * We advise listener discretion with this episode as some listeners might find some of the content triggering, topics such as image-based abuse, impersonation, and harassment are discussed. *

While the conversation is of a serious nature, it is remarkable the drive, commitment and positive change Rosie, colleagues across UCC, National Cyber Security Awareness Task Force and beyond are making.  This team of people are creating awareness to help others to recognise the signs of technology facilitated abuse and what a person can do to help themselves or somebody they know.
