Tompkins County officials say a “private employer” at the Ithaca Tompkins International Airport has reported “that one of their employees had tested positive for COVID-19.” In all, Tompkins County has 32 with positive test results as of Thursday afternoon.
A Tompkins County spokesperson confirms that the employee worked for the company at the airport. Employees at the airport often work for a third party, rather than the county, including airline counter staff, car rental staff, and cafe staff. The county did not identify the private employer.
Earlier in the week, the health department said they’ve received word of a positive COVID-19 test result in a food service worker, and they’re encouraging people who ate at the Mango Mango restaurant on Dryden Road in Collegetown during the food worker’s shifts on March 14th and 15th to self-quarantine.
Cornell announced on Wednesday that its campus-to-campus bus service between Ithaca and New York City was suspended until further notice, and on Thursday, Mayor Svante Myrick said all intercity bus service between Ithaca and NYC “has been voluntarily suspended by the bus companies.”
The decision comes at a time when local, state, and federal officials are strongly discouraging unnecessary travel.
Cornell Athletics has released a new Cornell Sports Activity Book, available for free download. Available at cornellbigred.com, the downloadable and printable PDF offers a maze, coloring, word search and a sport match page.
And IthacaTipJar.com popped up recently to make it easy for those in the community who still have some discretionary income to toss a monetary tip to their favorite local bartenders, servers, hairdressers, baristas, or others who rely on tips.
