Have you seen the cost of a bag of shredded cheddar cheese lately? I don't know about you mommas, but Taco Tuesday used to be my cheapest meal of the week, now it is no different than anything else I put on the table.

With soaring gas, grocery, and housing costs coupled with supply chain shortages many single moms in crisis are now being presented with yet another crisis - homelessness. Working, motivated mommas whose rent is being raised beyond the reasonable now have to move and move out quickly!

Help! I am in crisis. What do I do next?

School is out for the summer!!! No having to scurry the kids in a hurry, no extra-curricular activities, no parent-teacher conferences, science fairs, and homework.

It's going to be a "sandsational" summer. 

You are going to kick it by the pool, soak up some sunshine, and bask with your babies at the beach.

Oh yeah, but you are a solo momma. You don't have the time or the dime for vacation, staycation, or even a few days off. Your clock says 24/7 and you can't even break for a break. It takes courage to participate in life!

As solo mommas, we aren't just heads of our households for income tax purposes, we are spiritual heads of households for all purposeful incoming attacks on our household.

Of all the things we do as solo momma, whatever it is that we do, that is probably the easing most important thing a single momma has to do in a day. PRAY!

Just as our babies look to us as the ones with all the answers, we must look to the one who is the answer and has all the answers!

As a solo momma, you know how quickly the intended direction of your day can change based on unforeseen circumstances and your kiddo's schedules. It's hard work being the so-called "alpha and omega" of your household and how do we hold it all together? Especially, when there is one who wants us to fall apart.

Prayer matters. Prayer shatters.

On Mother's Day, you may soon realize, kids don't realize it's Mother's Day unless someone tells them. 

Sure they may make you a card in school, but come Sunday, they forget to get it out of their backpack. 

If I'm honest, I hadn't thought about it either when I woke up that first Single Mother's Day morning, until I woke up.  As I wiped the sleep from my eyes, I soon had to wipe away the tears as I thought about how no one was going to make me breakfast or have cards and a gift waiting for me on the kitchen table.

No one remembered to honor me that day!!! That Mother's Day was a huge disappointment and an epic failure to launch.

Whether it is your first Mother's Day as a solo momma or your 14th, Mother's Day-like holidays can be painful.

As a solo momma, you know what it's like to create a new normal while grieving the loss of the old at the same time, especially post COVID-19.

We were stretched to the limit like Elasta Girl from The Incredibles. We had no support of a second parent and had to find our "bounce-back" as we were forced out of the workplace due to lack of childcare - finding ourselves in a financial pinch, working from home, and now with school in our home. 

Nevertheless, we somehow made it work, but how is it working for your kiddos?

We may have been able to establish some kind of new normal out of what certainly was not normal, but our kids will NEVER know the normal we once had.

Our kids are dealing with difficult stuff and can easily stuff their emotions if they aren't taught some stuff.

When you look in the mirror WHAT do you see?

Do you take the time to take in all the traits that make up you or do you quickly cover yourself with make-up to conceal yourself from yourself and everyone else?

When you look in the mirror WHO do you see? What is it that you reflect on when you take in your reflection? Do you see every curve, line, texture, and tone as an imperfection or the perfecting pattern of a person called YOU?

As solo mommas and women, it is important to know our worth and value. If you don't define beauty, the world will define it for you.

What disappoints us the most in life is the picture in our heads of how life is supposed to be.

Now picture that, momma!

Do you feel that way when you look at your wedding picture or even a current picture of your family and notice someone is missing in that picture?

Do you find, like I do, that your "I do" you said as you stood at the altar would be forever?

It's not quite how you pictured it, is it?

Today we are going to do a cannonball into that pool of thoughts - when our reality doesn't match our dreams - forming, WHAT, an unmet expectation.
