Texas leaders learned the state will have to double its electricity production within six years, with crypto and data centers making up 50% of the increased demand. This is impossible without a large load of additional fossil fuels coming online. The state already issues emergency energy conservation alerts, calling for the adjustment of thermostats and for Texan to not use dishwashers or clothes washers during peak demand. Does this spell the reversal of a supposed “green transition” in Texas? Leaders signal that Bitcoin “mining” might be banned or heavily restricted in the state.
