SCHOOL SHOPPING COSTS - On his first day of August, many families are turning their attention to back-to-school shopping. During the next couple weeks, students across the country will head back into the classroom. A new report from the National Retail Federation shows families with children in K-12 schools spend an average of $874.68 dollars on school supplies, clothes and electronics. This is the second highest amount in the survey's history. College students are expected to spend more than $1,365 on the upcoming school year. This comes as a Wallethub report found 86% of parents think the cost of education is out of control. Nicole D’Antonio is live in Washington DC with details.

TEEN MENTAL HEALTH - As concerns over teen mental health continue to climb, a new report warns of the growing number of adolescents receiving mental health treatment. Nearly one-third of US adolescents (ages 12 to 17) received mental health treatment last year. That’s according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. This is a significant increase from the year prior. Nicole D’Antonio is live in Washington breaking down the new report.

YOU DECIDE 2024 coverage continues, as President Biden has proposed significant reforms for the Supreme Court, requiring legislative initiatives and potentially a Constitutional amendment. The reforms include term limits and an enforceable code of ethics, among other considerations. While unlikely to pass Congressional muster, it comes from recent concerns over SOCTUS legal decisions and ethically questionable behaviors by certain justices, and serves as a long-term platform building issue. KOSA FOLLOW - For the first time in nearly 25 years, Congress is taking bipartisan action to protect children and teens from dangerous online content. TODAY the Senate is expected to pass legislation that would hold big tech companies accountable and add more protections for minors. The bill would also ban targeted advertising to teens and prohibit online companies from collecting personal information. While it’s unclear what the House will do, the Senate is expected to vote on and pass the legislation. Nicole D’Antonio has been following the story closely for months.
