After serving our country, many veterans often face another kind of battle here at home. According to the US Department of Veterans Affairs, an average of 20 Veterans die by suicide every day. On Capitol Hill, federal lawmakers are talking with VA doctors about new therapies to help them with treatment. This includes expanding access to what’s known as “psychedelic assisted therapy” to help treat PTSD. During this hearing, lawmakers are also hearing from a veteran who attempted to take his own live several times before trying this therapy. We break down some of the sobering stats about veteran suicide and how these emerging treatments may help.
