Christmas is the time where we celebrate the incarnation. The mind-blowing reality that Jesus would leave his home to step into human homelessness. As a human being Jesus felt the longing to feel, safe, valued and welcomed. As a child, he was born into homeless poverty. As a boy he lived as a homeless exile in Egypt. In his hometown of Nazareth, he faced some of his strongest rejection and persecution. Even his own family, his mother and brothers rejected him and thought he had lost his mind. His own brothers conspired to take his life. Jesus created a family by opening heaven as our home. Creating a place for everyone who wants to belong to the family of God.
Jesus warned the Church in Laodicea that they had fallen in love with the lies of the world. They saw themselves as rich, powerful, self-sufficient... but they could not see the corruption in their own hearts. His warning is meant as a wake up call for all of us to acknowledge our need for a Savior and to surrender our lives to the King.
The message of the Spirit of Jesus to the church in Philadelphia in Revelation 3:7-13 is a message to survivors, to people who endured and held on to their faith in Jesus, despite the physical reality of earthquakes and aftershocks in their region. To those who survive, who hold on, there is the promise of a permanent and unshakable home in God's presence. This message is encouraging in its application to believers throughout history and to we who believe today.
The capacity to fool ourselves is huge. This is especially true in out spiritual life. The church in Sardis had a reputation that did not line up with reality. This message is a call to wake up spiritually.
Through history in different times and place and to different degrees the church of Jesus Christ has been persecuted. In this message we will discuss how to face persecution, become aware and pray for the persecuted church around the world and celebrate the freedoms we enjoy in our time and place. We will remind people of their responsibility to vote.
The church in Ephesus was a church that believed in, taught and stood up for truth. The overcame persecution and hardship. There had one problem. They had forgotten love. In this message we will challenge people to balance a love for truth with a love for God and people. It evaluates what they love and even if love has been driven from their church.
The Jesus of Revelation surprises us. He is awesome in power and might. Terrifying to those who are his enemies. He says to those who know Him; Fear not.
In this message we will revisit the story of The Woman at the Well. We will call people to discover Jesus passion to meet people where they are on their spiritual journey, so they can take steps to know and become like Him
