Today’s key principles are from Matthew 6:34.
Jesus said: "Take therefore no thought for tomorrow: for tomorrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."
Another translation: "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."
This is powerful, some key takeaways:
Take no thought, Do not worry (about tomorrow, the next thing, the next task).
Sufficient for today is its own trouble. In essence, Jesus is saying, if you worry about tomorrow, you are draining today of its energy and taking focus away from what you can do today. He’s telling us: deal with today, first get through today! He is telling us that today by itself is going to be so demanding that we need to absolutely focus on today otherwise we shall drain today of its energy and worse even lose hope for tomorrow.
Depression today comes from anxiety about tomorrow. Likewise, depression and stress of this morning will come from anxiety about the afternoon…
How can we apply this to work or everyday living?
Whenever I go on a run, I always break it down like this:
If it's a 10km run, I always say, let me just focus on the 5km going...
If it's a 15km run I focus on the first 7km…
Because I know once I get to 7km, chances are that my body will adjust to the task at hand.
If I am going on a 20km run likewise I focus on the first 10km or 13 then the remaining 7 will be taken care of and hey if I don't end up running the remaining 7 guess what? I did 13km...
And if I keep applying this mindset over a long period I will break through to 20km eventually.
Because the next time I will do 15km and gradually climb to the 20km goal.
When you wake up, figure out how to break the race of the day into pieces.
Set mini-milestones within your day.
Set mini-goals within the big one.
Break the day into 3hr segments.
Focus on the first three hours, give it all your attention and focus and take a break at that point - can even be a 15 min break.
Then go after the next three and then the last three.
Don't worry about the last 3 hrs before you get off at the beginning of your shift. Because sufficient for the morning is its own trouble.
Worrying about how you will get through the last 3hours of your shift will drain you of the energy you have for the morning and yet momentum is key.
Human beings thrive on momentum. Whenever we don’t see any progress we tend to give up.
Give the morning all you got, the satisfaction from this accomplishment will boost you up for the next three hours.
If you’re a morning person, start off the day with the hard stuff or problems.
If you’re an afternoon person do the easy things in the morning to get your body get in gear and then do the hard stuff after. Worrying about tomorrow drains today of its energy. Worrying about the afternoon drains the morning and worrying about the evening drains the afternoon.
Thank you for tuning in and God Bless your hustle today. 🙏💪
