💥Doc Miller, PhD, RN [ @docmilller ] is a Professor, Foster Youth Advocate, Writer for Black Girl Masculine [@blackgirlmasculine], Community Organizer, and Motivational Speaker. Coming from being in and out of foster care homes for 12 years, she advocates for policy changes in the Child Welfare system. Also, she can be seen in the commercial teaming up with LinkedIn’s “In It To Speak for Those Who Cannot” campaign. She’s also a Guardian Scholar Mentor, a mentor program through her university.
Last year, she partnered with Together We Rise and raised over $1400 and purchased 56 duffel bags for foster youth. This year, their goal is $3,900 and volunteers are needed to assist them on May 7th, 2019.

She received her undergraduate from Howard University, her Masters of Science in Nursing, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner from California State University, Long Beach and later obtained a PhD from UCLA. While working on her PhD, she was 1 of 5 to receive the Minority Nurse Faculty fellowship and did her PhD Dissertation on: Transition Readiness, Perceived Health, and Health Services Utilization in Transitional Age Foster Youth Compared to Controls.

Doc stops by to talk: craziest requests from a student for extra time or re-taking a test, the reason she had to quit a professor job, going to school at a Historically Black College University coming from Compton, biggest lesson she learned going to Howard, growing up in a trap house, being in and out of foster care homes for 12 years, how she managed to hang out with gang bangers while avoiding joining them, and taking custody of her sister while in her 20’s, and how she accidentally burned down one of the foster homes she stayed at that her little sister took the blame.
