Series, and an iconic rock band in the Philippines who bear the name)? In this episode, we are going to discover the man behind the name. Together with Dr. Victoria Parco, a theologian, spiritual master, and also a disciple of San Juan De La Cruz, we dive deeper to this artist, poet, mystic, and a saint.

What if one day you have unplugged your earphones from your ear, disconnected yourself on social media and all you’ve got is silence? A deep desire to be filled or a longing for joy. You want to do something greater than yourself even to the point of sacrificing the things you love. Years ago, I joined a week long silent retreat and it fell on a Holy Week. It was actually a retreat for young people to consider religious life (it was the Jesuits). It was a memorable experience of mine and one of the few things that cherished was about a reflection about FASTING. In this episode, I will share to you that fasting is actually a FEAST. This is what I have read on that retreat: “Fast from judging others; feast ON THE Christ dwelling in them.

Fast from emphasis on differences; feast in the unity of all life.

Fast from apparent darkness; feast on the reality of life.

Fast from words that pollute; feast on the phrases that purify.

Fast from discontent; feast on gratitude.

Fast from anger; feast on patience.

Fast from pessimism; feast on optimism.

Fast from worry; feast on trust.

Fast from complaining; feast on appreciation.

Fast from negatives; feast on affirmatives.

Fast from unrelenting pressures; feast on unceasing prayer.

Fast from hostility; feast on non-violence.

Fast from bitterness; feast on forgiveness.

Fast from self-concern; feast on compassion for others.

Fast from personal anxiety; feast on eternal truth.

Fast from discouragement; feast on hope.

Fast from facts that depress; feast on truth that uplifts.

Fast from lethargy; feast on enthusiasm.

Fast from suspicion; feast on truth.

Fast from thoughts that weaken; feast on promises that inspire.

Fast from idle gossip; feast on purposeful silence."

Friends, in this season of Lent let us be reminded that as Christians despite our shortcomings and imperfections, we are called to be Holy. In this time of fasting and abstaining let us also surrender through God’s grace our imperfections and frailties so that by the ebd of this season His power, His triumph, His love and His will may prevail.
