Red Letter Living - Forgiveness

Luke 23: 32 - 34

Today is the second part of our Red Letter Living, we are looking at the last words of Jesus as he hung on the cross.

Today we are going to deal with the difficult topic of forgiveness.

As Jesus hung on the cross, He issued a plea for mercy on behalf of those who have beaten him, mocked him, spat at him. Those who hated him.

Today, we start our new easter series called “Red Letter Living” and We are going to be looking at the last phrases of Jesus, the powerful and theologically deep phrases that Jesus uttered while on the cross and look at how we live from those powerful truths.

Today we will look at the words “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me”

Maybe that is resonating with you today and the truth is it is easy to trust God when life is going well when our plans seem to be working out, but what about when everything goes pear-shaped?

Do we really trust in God?

Why does God love you?

So often we are taught growing up that God will love us if we are obedient, or if we do certain things. When we grow up we think of our relationship in terms of how they make us feel.

Today we look at the truth we are loved by God because we are His and how that truth impacts how we live.

Last week we looked at Forget the wind, seek the cross and make Jesus big.

This week we are looking at forget doing good and Become Passionate about Jesus.

What are you chasing after?

In the times we live in we find our selves being consumed by chasing after things that never fully satisfies us.

In today's message, we look at how to grow in intimacy with Jesus and what we should fill our days with in order to shine the worth of Christ to those around us.

Forget the wind, chase after the cross and make it all about Jesus.

What motivates you?

What gets you up in the morning?

What makes you do what you do on a daily basis?

Being healthy?

Making money?

Fear?

A desire to be needed, wanted or the best?

There are so many things feeding us to be motivated and yet we still land up scrolling our empty Facebook feeds, watching too much tv and longing for a better tomorrow with no real change today.

The bible speaks about the motivation for living a worthy life, it says it starts with fear, not fear as we have of spiders, or covid or crime, but a healthy fear.

What are you willing to die for?

What makes something worth it?

What makes life worth living for?

In the second part of our Philippians journey, we unpack what Paul means by a living a worthy life, despite uncertainty and not knowing if he would live or die in prison, he sees the pain and difficulty as an opportunity for kingdom advancement.

DO YOU BELONG? Ever feel like you just don't quite fit in? Like there is no real place you can be part of?

God has a place for you that you belong.

I think generally people don't have an issue with the idea of being the church, they just not sure they fit in or they belong.

In the start of our Philippians series, we unpack the start of the church and who made it up. We see that there is a place for us in God's kingdom and we take a look at the supernatural power of God to meet people where they are with the transformative power of the gospel.

The Only thing you need is Jesus

The new year has begun and we all have a list of things we still need for the year, more money, more time, more freedom.

We have lots of plans for one day but today Bradley shows us the only thing we need as we enter into 2021 is Jesus.

That Jesus is enough and We are enough.

Jesus qualifies us and empowers us to live out kingdom purpose in 2021.
