Arctic high pressure to our north and a southwest flow aloft are going to butt heads the next few days. Light overrunning precipitation is expected later tomorrow and Sunday morning. A long duration of freezing drizzle may occur until later Monday night when a strong system affects us. This could become a heavy freezing rain or sleet event. I’ll break down what the most likely scenario is.

A low pressure system is going to go to our south tonight and bring us an accumulating snowfall. Bitterly cold air takes over for Friday and Saturday. Model mayhem abounds for Sunday with the evolution of another possible snow event.

In this episode we recap the snowfall that we’ve seen so far this year and discuss where we stand with regards to normal. We then look at a light snow and rain event tomorrow. We also analyze how the upper flow is realigning and what that could mean in terms of arctic cold and snow later in the week.

The winter storm that we had this Sunday had wrapped and in many cases amounts finished in lines with our earlier projections. This week will feature arctic air to our north and an active storm track across the mid-Atlantic. We will have several distinct opportunities for snow, including one on Tuesday and a prolonged event for Thursday and Friday that could wind up as ice.

Another snowfall is taking aim on NYC and Long Island. We’ll time it out for you and let you know how the forecast has evolved since yesterday. We also will discuss what areas might be in for a surprise in the storm.
