In this episode we discuss the ongoing rain event and look at the week ahead, including Thanksgiving. We also have our weather education segment on how snowflakes form. Lastly, we look at what this winter might have in store for us.

After the near-record cold of yesterday and a slight moderation today, temperatures will warm to above seasonable levels for the coming weekend, which also looks mostly dry. We then discuss the relative quiet of the tropics now and some of the rapidly intensifying storms we saw previously.

In this episode we discuss the winter-like temperatures that are about to descend upon the northeast. There won’t be any large storms nearby to interact with this cold air mass, but it’s time to brush up on our knowledge of nor’easters. Our educational segment describes the origins of these systems and a common misconception about them. Lastly, we discuss category 5 hurricane Iota in the Caribbean and it’s climatology significance.

A squall line is quickly approaching our region and may produce strong wind gusts. Colder weather is then forecasted this week. We’re also monitoring hurricane Iota, which could become a major hurricane.

Late in the day tomorrow a strong cold front is expected to move through. This will be accompanied by a band of heavy showers, and gusty winds are expected during and immediately following the front’s passage. The next Greek system is also firing up in the Caribbean, and it looks like it’s going to be a big deal in Nicaragua and Honduras.

A cold front and trough will provide us with rain tonight and tomorrow. Also, we are watching another front over the weekend that will usher in a much colder pattern. There are also 3 systems we’re monitoring in the tropics.

Our gorgeous spell of weather is about to come to an end. A cold front will stall across the region over the next few days and become a large rain producer. Tropical storm Eta is about to impact the United States as well and tropical storm theta formed last night, making this the most active hurricane season on record. There’s more where that came from too.

Eta may strengthen into a hurricane as it approaches the FL Keys. We’re also monitoring two additional systems in the Atlantic Basin that could become tropical cyclones. Last, we discuss the statistics of this hurricane season.

Record breaking warmth occurred in our region today and this will likely continue into tomorrow as high pressure builds overhead. Rain is in the forecast though in just a few days. We’re also watching tropical storm Eta. Uncertainty abounds with this one, especially in terms of its track, but this looks like a long-duration event in Florida.
