Snow is developing across the area as we speak. This will evolve into a long duration, heavy precipitation event with high winds and coastal flooding. We’ll let you know how much these amounts are going to vary across the region. 12”-18” is expected in some spots. Also, Tuesday is Groundhog’s Day!

A potent and slow-moving coastal storm will provide NYC and Long Island with heavy snow, gusty winds, and coastal flooding. Double-digit snowfall amounts are possible! We’ll let you know when it’s going to start and stop and when we might observe blizzard conditions.

A long-duration winter weather event is likely later Sunday night and potentially lasting into Tuesday. We’ll let you know what track we think the storm is going to take and take an early prediction at accumulation amounts.

An arctic high pressure system is moving into the region tonight. Sub-zero wind chills will be common tomorrow morning and Saturday morning along with gusty winds. The potential for an accumulating snowfall Sunday night into Tuesday continues to grow. We’ll time it out and let you know what the most uncertain parts of the forecast still are.

The coldest air mass of the season will arrive in the east for Friday and Saturday with sub-zero wind chills. The arrival of this air mass might herald in a new, snowier, pattern. A storm that will bring record snow to California tomorrow will also make its way to near our area by Sunday night.

For Tuesday a weak storm system will linger around the region and could produce some treacherous mixed precipitation. A stronger storm will be safely offshore on Thursday but will be close enough to bring an arctic airmass into the region by the end of the week. Yet a third winter storm could threaten us by Sunday.

As we go into the week ahead, we will start off with seasonable and dry weather. We’ll have a mixed bag of precipitation for Tuesday and Wednesday with a weak storm. We’ll then be watching a potent nor’easter that will be just offshore on Thursday. A true arctic outbreak, the first one of the winter, looks like it will come in for Friday and next weekend.

We have two winter weather events possible for the upcoming week. While we may get mostly rooked by the first one, there is a second storm on Thursday that could become a meteorological bomb! How far north will it get?

In this episode we will look at a change to below-average temperatures this weekend. We also look at how our blocking pattern might change to allow for at least one snow event early next week.
