  • Tuesday, January 31, 2023 - SHUG? SHRUG!

A fabulous Tuesday crossword, which we knew it would be as soon as we saw the constructor's name - Erik Agard. The theme was fine, and of particular benefit to MARIAHCAREY fans. But even if you weren't thoroughly acquainted with her back catalog, the clues and crosses made this not just doable, but a treat (and not just because of the literal one, a debut entry, 16A, Crushed ice dessert with a reduplicative name, HALOHALO).

We also have a Triplet Tuesday segment, and listener mail, so to catch up on all this goodness we heartily encourage you to download, listen up, and enjoy!

  • Monday, January 30, 2023 - The EYES have it!

This was, as cruciverbalists like to say, a slightly crunchier than usual Monday crossword, but an entertaining one just the same, with an amusing theme was hard to miss - in fact, it will probably hit you RIGHTBETWEENTHEEEYES. Deets are inside (including a discussion of deets!), so download, listen up, and enjoy!

Remember, if you like this podcast, please spread the word, and we love all those 5 star reviews!

  • Sunday, January 29, 2023 - OHNEAT - an answer in today's crossword and, conveniently, our tldr summary of today's episode!

An excellent Sunday crossword, and a debut to boot, for Rich Katz. He has a dozen, yes, a dozen, amazing and amusing clues guaranteed to bring a smile to your lips. He even managed to get a reference to the QB for the KC Chiefs (playing on the same day in a semifinal): now that's attention to detail! Definitely 5 squares on the JAMCR scale, and to find out why, download now.

  • Saturday, January 28, 2023 - We're not ONTHEFENCE about this crossword!

A great Saturday crossword by Kevin Christian, with some absolutely terrific clues, such as 24A, Something that isn't assumed, REALNAME (aah); 47D, Square things, ATONE (ooh); and 13D, His 2016 debut album unseated "Thriller" for the most weeks spent in the top 10 on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hot chart (77), POSTMALONE (huh!). And the latter might not be the longest NYTimes crossword clue ever, but it's got to be in that top echelon.

In other news, it's Saturday, and our JAMCOTWA (Jean And Mike Crossword Of The Week Award) goes to ... nope, we don't want to spoil it, so for all the DEETS just hit download, play, and enjoy!

  • Friday, January 27, 2023 - Look out, ELMISTI's about to blow! 😸😻

It was one of those Friday crosswords - easy if you're in the right demographic, a bit more of a struggle if you are not. Both co-hosts had to dig in places, and Mike was particularly hard pressed because of his ignorance of anything that occurred more recently than 1815. So, the key question: did  our intrepid co-hosts succeed? The answer is as close as this podcast, so for enlightenment just download now.

  • Thursday, January 26, 2023 - A SHARPER than usual Thursday, a real BEAUT!

Once again we must doff our hats to the constructors of today's masterpiece, Dan Ziring and Quiara Vasquez, for having bestowed upon us a brilliant puzzle, with clues so sharp you could slice bread with them, and a theme so brilliant that it glows in the dark. OK, perhaps we are guilty of a bit of hyperbole, but not much - and if you need proof, just listen up to today's episode!

  • Wednesday, January 25, 2023 - This crossword's the CATSMEOW!

A wonderful Wednesday crossword by Nancy Serrano-Wu, with some fascinating clues such as 1A, Composer of the piano piece played in the "Tom and Jerry" short "The Cat Concerto", LISZT (a hoot to watch); 4D, ________ suit, ZOOT (try saying that 3 times fast!); and 56A, Sports bar purchases?, TRIPLEDOUBLES (yes, that is a thing!).

  • Tuesday, January 24, 2023 - Bubble, bubble, toil and ... tea??

A very effervescent Tuesday crossword by Aaron M. Rosenberg and the indefatigable Jeff Chen (he of xwordinfo.com fame). We don't want to spill the TEA, so to speak, but this was one fine crossword. We also have a winner in our Triplet Tuesday Contest (yay!), so to find out who walked away with the trophy, as well as hear our usual 4-dimensional-chess-like analysis of today's crossword, all you need to do is download, listen, learn, and (hopefully!) laugh.

  • Monday, January 23, 2023 - MONGOOSE v. cobra - who will win??

The only thing MEH about today's crossword was the presence of MEH in the grid (20D, Passable, at best)  -- otherwise, it was filled with LEVITY (59A, Lack of seriousness about a serious situation) and worthy of at least one HURRAH (60A, "Yay!"), possibly more. All the DEETS (61A, Juicy bits of info) are inside, just as close as your download and play buttons!

One last reminder, if you want to participate in our Triplet Tuesday Contest, just check out last Tuesday's episode, and get that entry in ASAP! Winner(s) will be announced ... tomorrow!

  • Sunday, January 22, 2023 - Got the FANTODS? Perhaps you just need some TLC

Although the title of today's crossword was With Ease, that's not how your intrepid cohosts solved it: rather, the clue for 19A, My ________ (You're never gonna get it), 1992 hit by En Vogue, seemed a more accurate premonition as as they both (solving independently, as always) flailed around in the top-left corner. But fortunately, diving into their memory palace (Jean) and guessing letters totally at random (Mike), they were eventually both able to dispel the FANTODS on their way to victory. And in case you're wondering, yes, FANTODS really is a word, we cover it today, and we are in love with it!

Our Triplet Tuesday contest winners will be announced this Tuesday - if you haven't already, there is still time to enter -- just check out last Tuesday's episode for the rules, and may the best solver win!
