A suitably scary Monday crossword - not because of the difficulty, necessarily, but because of the theme. So, to get in the mood for today's episode, grab your favorite Halloween treats, and then munch, download, learn, and enjoy -- not necessarily in that order!

One of the most celebrated computer scientists of all time - you can tell, because Benedict Cumberbatch starred in a movie about him -- shows up in today's grid, and not just as a minor character but really the star of the puzzle, which features an absolutely ingenious theme that the person in question, ALANTURING, would undoubtedly have approved of. For all the deets, we cordially invite you to download and prepare to be enlightened!

At first blush, today's grid looks absolutely daunting, with vast swathes of white squares and what appears to be a frowning face in the center; but both our cohosts found today's crossword to be eminently doable (Jean more than Mike, as is oft the case). That is not to detract, because the clues were uniformly excellent, funny, enlightening, everything you want an NYTimes crossword to be. So, hat's off to Daniel Okulitch for creating this opus! For all the deets (as well as the big reveal of this week's JAMCOTWA - Jean And Mike Crossword Of The Week Award), download, listen up, subscribe, and please leave us a 5-star review on wherever you are listening to this podcast.

It is entirely possible that Will Shortz is training us for halloween, because some of the crosswords this week have been scarily difficult. Exhibit A is today's. Jean got stuck in the bottom-center, Mike was temporarily ATSEA in the top left, but it's hard to stay mad at a crossword that's this good - 5 squares on the JAMCR scale!!

If you don't like rebuses, back away slowly from the crossword - today's grid is packed with them, and to make sense of the theme you have to read some of them twice. The theme is, as you will discover, absolutely ingenious, so have a listen and, as usual, let us know what you think - [email protected]

Today's constructor definitely hit a HOLEINONE, and based on the grid, it is clear that he is a MASTERSTRATEGIST, producing a theme, and a grid, that is guaranteed to AMUSE. We liked it -- a lot -- and to find out why it's now in the running for the prestigious JAMCOTWA (Jean And Mike Crossword Of The Week Award), download now! Also, while you're doing so, if you like what you hear, please consider giving us a 5-star rating -- or if you're an overachiever, a 6 😀

A delightful Tuesday crossword by Ashleigh Silveira and Nick Shephard, with an uplifting and entertaining theme - deets within. Jean was temporarily naticked due to her unfamiliarity with 33A, ____ Culbertson, member of the contract bridge hall of fame, ELY; and Mike was delighted to see his favorite tech company make an appearance in the grid, 37A, Mac maker, APPLE.
It's also Tuesday, which means it's time for Triplet Tuesday, during which Jean ... again, a little suspense is good for the heart, so to find out how she fared, download, listen up, and enjoy!

A surprising Monday crossword - most notably because of ... well, if we told you here it wouldn't be a surprise - but we will tell you that it almost made us SWOON, that's how surprising it was. So for all the deets, you will have to do what countless others have done before you, to wit, download, listen up, and enjoy!

Another brilliant Sunday crossword, with an ingenious theme from Daniel Bodily and Jeff Chen, and while Daniel Bodily may not be quite as familiar a name, Jeff Chen is a hero in the crosswording community (he of xwordinfo.com fame), and this crossword is a testament to why he deserves those accolades. We have all the deets inside, so download, listen up, enjoy, and once you've done that feel free to leave us a 5 ⭐️ review on your favorite podcast app!
