Jeff Grant's Evolving Podcast

I've been in #songwritingmode for a little while & wanted to talk about it on the podcast but not just do another one by myself, so I got my good friend & fellow songwriter Josh Irwin (from episode 34) to come back on the show so we could go deep & nerdy about how we make up songs. We've both been doing this over 20 years (yikes!) so we definitely had some thoughts to hash out.

Thanks for listening!

My friend Brian Carter called into the podcast for a 4th time this week. Any episode with Brian a good time. The conversation rambled through several topics including all this COVID-19 junk, the recent tornado in Nashville, what Brian (a professional chef) gets at the grocery store (the answer might surprise you)and Bob Dylan's new song (which I still haven't heard yet). Near the end we got into a screenplay I wrote recently based on characters Brian made up called Divorce Man. That's normal, right? Sure. Anywho...

This episode comes with a LANGUAGE WARNING. If you are offended by colorful language you may wanna skip this one.

Not even COVID-19 could stop this slow bullet train of podcast episodes describing the process of one man trying to make an album! No way! In this 3rd episode of the series, I (Jeff) discuss how the coronavirus has changed my day to day life (spoiler: not a whole lot). Then I move on to discuss the state of the album at this point. YEA!

Hope everyone is staying safe out there! I hope this episode can be a mild relief for you.

I'm continuing my series of episodes about making an album today. In this 2nd one I talked about some recent gear I've collected (a microphone for my phone & a synthesizer). I included some audio samples of each one, including the WORLD PREMIERE of the song "I have a new phone(who is this?)" and a long synthesizer loop you can fall asleep to (you're so welcome). I also discuss trying to come up with an album cover early & if doing it BEFORE deciding on the songs is a good or bad thing. Hmm. This episode was recorded in a parking lot on my phone. Woo hoo! Thanks for listening!

I'm planning to start working on a new album of music in the next couple of weeks and I wanted to do a series of monthly(ish) podcast episodes documenting the process as I go. My hope is to release these here and there to give people an idea of what goes into making an album that at the moment doesn't exist yet.

I recorded this on a "busy" Sunday night in my kitchen while I made macaroni and cheese (I explain why in the episode). I wanted to talk about how it feels before you start working on something when the sky is wide open and it can be anything. Thanks for listening!
