Stop being a generalist and get more specific. There's thousands of people out there trying to sell their sustainability skills and if you're not specialized, you're too easy to overlook. What are you most excited about right now in the world of sustainability? The focus on metrics and outcomes is incredibly interesting and I feel like it's changing every single day. What is one book you would recommend sustainability leaders read? I would actually recommend that you just read the newspaper every day. I think that understanding what is happening in the world is probably more important in terms of being a good sustainability consultant than relying on a single book. What are some of your favorite resources or tools that really help you in your work? I'm a big advocate of podcasts and simple web reading. I probably spend 45 minutes to an hour every day reading up on e-newsletters from industry groups like Greenbiz.com. Environmental Leader is a great website. I really like to have a broad understanding of what news is coming out, what people are talking about, what they're not talking about, who's doing it, who's leading and who's following.
