Now we come to one of the most invisible waves of all: emotional isolation—the hunger for genuine, authentic relationship.
📊 THE RESEARCH
The American Psychological Association’s research on America’s “Crisis of Connection” reveals the magnitude of the problem:
🔹 54% report feeling isolated from others at least some of the time.
🔹 50% say they lack companionship.
🔹 50% say they feel left out.
🔹 **69%—nearly 7 in 10—**say they needed more emotional support than they received.
The paradox is striking: you can be connected to almost everyone and still feel connected to no one.
📖 BUT SCRIPTURE GOES DEEPER
Secular research can measure the symptom. Scripture exposes the deeper spiritual question:
What happens when we expect human beings to provide what only God can ultimately provide?
Jeremiah 17:5–8 draws a powerful contrast between the person who makes “human flesh” his strength and the person whose confidence is in the Lord.
🌳 One becomes like a shrub in a parched wilderness.
🌿 The other becomes like a tree planted beside water—still experiencing heat and drought, but remaining rooted, alive, and fruitful.
The difference isn't the absence of trouble.
The difference is where the roots are.
🙏 THE ANCHOR
Psalm 139 reminds you that there is nowhere you can go where God's presence cannot reach you.
Hebrews 12:2 calls you to keep “fixing our eyes on Jesus.”
And Psalm 91:1 gives us the destination of this entire series:
“The one who lives under the protection of the Most High dwells in the shadow of the Almighty.”
You need people. You were created for relationship and genuine fellowship. But no human being can become your ultimate source of security, identity, strength, or hope.
❤️ You may feel alone.
But you are not abandoned.
🌊 The waves may keep coming.
But you can still dwell in the shadow of the Almighty.
