Few of us know what to make of accounts of exorcisms in the gospels - we might be tempted to disbelieve in the demonic and not understand why Jesus having authority over demons is even "good news" for us. But when we read the first account of exorcism in Mark's gospel and encounter Jesus the exorcist, he is not doing anything bizarre or inconsistent with his character - rather we see him doing what he always does: reclaiming and restoring humanity, one person at a time. Deacon Lisa Elmers teaches through Mark 1:21-28.
