After Jerusalem and the Temple were destroyed, the exiles were convinced that God had left them, and that they were finished. It’s in this dark place that God provides the most beautiful hope. God’s promises of redemption and restoration are rich and alive in this last part of Ezekiel— not just for Israel, but for us as well.

The prophecies through Jeremiah are reiterated to the exiles through Ezekiel. God uses harsh language and images to wake His people up! They still don’t turn back to God, so why does He keep pursuing them? Because he is eternally patient, unremittingly faithful, and unfathomably good.

As we wrap up Jeremiah and grieve through Lamentations, we start the book of Ezekiel. We get to see the destruction of Judah all over again through Ezequiel‘s eyes. He was with the exile in the first wave of deportations, and God warns, implores, and invites His exiled people to turn back to Him.

You would think that after rock-bottom, the only place to go would be up. With Judah being completely taken over by the Babylonians and the temple destroyed, surely the small Judaen remnant would look to God and choose obedience. But did they?

Israel and Judah hit rock bottom. It is in this place of utter despair and exile that God delivers the most beautiful promises of hope.

The second half of Isaiah is overflowing with hope, encouragement, and breathtaking promises. God assures His people that He will one day deliver them from the coming Babylonian captivity, even as He lovingly calls them to return to Him with all their hearts.

But Isaiah’s vision reaches far beyond Israel’s immediate future. He points to a day they could scarcely imagine—a coming Messiah who would bear the sins of the world and bring salvation to all who trust in Him. God’s heart has always been for the nations, and His plan of restoration culminates in a glorious future when people from every tribe, tongue, and nation will gather to worship before His throne.

As we see one of the best kings of Judah fall into arrogance and selfishness, we zone in on the prophet Isaiah. God though him, is warning his people of the judgment of the Lord. He communicates the undoing of creation because of sin, and His promised restoration, or re-creation— first through the Messiah, and finally, through the New Heavens and New Earth.

Ahaz quite possibly the worst, most wicked and evil king of Judah. His son, Hezekiah, was the most God, honoring and obedient king since David. How in the world was that possible? Tune in and find out!

King Ahaz was one of the most evil kings of Judah. He was such a wicked and idolatrous man, that he even sacrificed his son in the fire. And yet we see God’s supernaturally, patient and loving heart pursuing him, warning him, exhorting him through the prophet Isaiah. God gave him every opportunity. He ignored each one.
