Episode 20 dropped today on the day the new cohort of NBAA 40 under 40 were announced. For what it is worth, numerous current and alum recipients (including our own Lee Brewster) of the NBAA 40 under 40 have participated in the Jet Blast Podcast. In this episode we were joined by Tristan Punnett who not so coincidentally is part of the 2019 40 under 40 cohort. Tristan has an interesting aviation story that is firmly rooted in the technology aspects of business aviation. Tristan drops a ton of knowledge about mentorships, mindset challenges, and networking. You don't want to miss this episode. Tristan is a huge advocate of the the NBAA's mentorship program. You can learn more about that here: https://mentoring.nbaa.org/home. If you want to engage with Tristan you can find him on LinkedIn here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tristan-punnett.
In episode 19 of the Jet Blast podcast Andy, Lee, and Nathan had an interesting discussion with Scott Ashton from Aerox. Scott shared in his words "eclectic" aviation background and how each of those experiences lead him to owning Aerox. We also talked about the challenges of leading and running small aviation businesses in the most drastic global downturn aviation has every seen. It really is all about the people. Scott is also a pivotal figure big supporter of the New England Air Museum in Windsor Locks, CT. The museum has some wonderful enrichment and educational programs that help improve the diversity and expansion of the aviation work force. Check out the links to connect with Scott, Aerox, and to learn how you too can support the New England Air Museum.

In episode 18 of Jet Blast Lee, Andy, and I were joined by Lori McGee who is a Partner at Jetstream Aviation Law to talk about the importance of knowing who we are as Part 91 Operators. There have been volumes of article and podcasts published on what constitute an operator in the eyes of the FAA, IRS, and other regulatory bodies. It seems that many in our industry still do not get the impact this can have on everyone involved from the pilots to the owners when you get it wrong. In other instances, there are those who think they know what all of the rules are currently, but have missed a recent change somehow. Once the decision to own the aircraft and operate it under Part 91 has been made, a simple solution that doesn't impede the operation and reduces the risk as much as possible should be the goal of all involved. Lori was able to shed a critical light on some key strategies and resources that you should consider employing when setting up and refining your operational structure. Lori also shared her firm's involvement and support of Women in Corporate Aviation as well as a really cool organization called the Food From the Bar challenge. In episode 16 we chatted with Greg Heine from ATP about the building of a brand in business aviation. This is a very relevant topic for many in our industry as they try to reinvent or launch altogether new business to support the business aviation industry. Lee, Andy, and Nathan had a great time hearing a first hand account of starting a small family business that has grown to become one of the most recognized brands in the industry and is now part of a much larger company. Many would agree this is truly a story of the American dream. Greg also talked about supporting charities. Specifically, two that Flightdocs and the Heine family support are the Gary Sinise Foundation and the Independence Fund (links for both are below). As always, we encourage you support of ACE in Atlanta, GA, and don't forget that if you download the MRO Insider app that Andy will plant a tree. We genuinely appreciate all the comments and feedback please keep it coming by leaving us a message on the show site www.anchor.fm/jet-blast. In episode 15 of Jet Blast Andy, Lee, and I had great conversation with Christina Brown about the important role Coaches play and why us aviators should leverage the resource more often. In aviation we typically operate on small teams, as independent contractors, and/or small business owners without the advantage of a neutral, objective sounding board. Christina shares some very good perspective on the coaching process. We did have a fire alarm scare early in this episode...we think it was a false alarm. The charity we are highlighting in this episode is the Aviation Family Fund which assists in providing supplemental funding during the recovery process for alcohol and drug-related dependence, and is available to anyone in the aviation industry. We really do appreciate the feedback and suggestions that you guys have provided. You can leave us a voicemail at www.anchor.fm/jet-blast.

In Jet Blast episode 14 we ripped the bandaid off of a topic that needs broader discussion in business aviation. Lee, Andy, and I were joined by my very good friend Lindsay Ancora to discuss the concept of "aviation as a service." Since the beginning there have been essentially two paths for aircraft owners: 1) internal company flight operation, or 2) management company. With the services of companies like L/D Aviation, Jett Group, Thoroughbred Aviation, and others owners now have the choice and ability of a hybrid type of management arrangement that is truly a bespoke approach to managing aviation assets. As always we love getting fan mail and feedback so please visit the show site at anchor.fm/jet-blast and leave us a message.

In episode 13 of Jet Blast Lee, Andy, and I got to chat with our friends Jared and Jordan. We chatted about one of the positives we all learned through conducting business during the pandemic - the use of technology as a standard practice. We also discussed the impacts of COVID on our businesses and colleagues. As we always do, discussed ways to advance our industry through philanthropy. In particular we discussed the ACE Academy in Atlanta, GA. ACE really needs all of our help to continue their efforts in introducing young people to aviation. A link to their GoFundMe is below - please consider giving anything you can. If nothing else, please share the link on your social channels.

In Jet Blast episode 12 we got to chat with our good friend Christine DeJong from GAMA where we talked about lots of developmental work going on in the aviation industry. As Christine put it (quite nicely I might add) that we are entering a new golden age in aviation. From supersonics to electric to hydrogen to exoskeletons there is so much on the horizon that will change our industry forever. Links for references in the show are below. We love all your feedback and ideas. You can leave us a voice message on the show's website at www.anchor.fm/jet-blast

In episode 11 of Jet Blast we were joined by my friend Cameron Tipton from Flight Level Partners to talk aircraft appraisals. When it comes to appraising aircraft there seem to be more questions than answers in many cases. For example, why can't I just use my broker or salesman to render an opinion of value? What does it mean to be a certified appraiser? Listen in to hear Cameron's take on this and find out what if he will tell us what he thinks the COVID discount is on aircraft? Thanks again for all the feedback and comments. You can leave us feedback on our show page: www.anchor.fm/jet-blast by clicking leave a message.
