Welcome to this week’s Jim Fannin Show, America’s Most Positive Podcast. This episode asks the question, “Do you stand out in a crowd?”
Champions in business, sports, and life are not normal. They embrace, “If you have abnormal dreams, you must think and act in an abnormal way.” Here are seven traits champions possess that most people don’t do, refuse to do, or can’t do because they don’t have the commitment, drive, talent, or knowledge.
This week, I discuss the many tools and techniques for positively influencing a group, gathering, meeting or crowd. With these tips, you’ll stand out in a sales presentation, production meeting, tennis tournament, restaurant dinner, or any large audience.
• Listen to my fortuitous meeting with Mother Theresa in Calcutta.
Champions come in all shapes and sizes. From an 11-year old tennis player to a 65-year old female entrepreneur, there are no rules for what a champion can be and do. However, there are common denominators that they all share. Ponder the champion traits from the show. See what you need to add or subtract in your life in order to walk in the footsteps of greatness. It’s time you stand out in a crowd!

Welcome to the Jim Fannin Show! This week’s episode is all about survival skills when things go wrong. Yes…sometimes we get ambushed by the unexpected, unwanted and unimaginable.
Most listeners to this show are eternal optimists, since it is America’s Most Positive Podcast. You prepare for your life to go right. You clearly see what you want. You see your bright future in the distance. However, sometimes things go wrong. This desire for the best outcome can conflict radically with reality. How do you respond when things go wrong?
What triggers your negative feelings? Politics? Finances? Your spouse? Your children? How about your mother-in-law or father-in-law? How about a teammate or co-worker? Or maybe, it’s the ridiculous long line at the DMV or rush hour traffic in Atlanta, LA, NY or Chicago? You want to lash out. You may want to give up. Aren’t you mentally drained and tired of the negativity? It may seem one challenge is solved and a new one unexpectedly arises.
In this week’s show….you will be mentally transported to my kitchen. That’s right! Here you’ll find out with a simple exercise on my stove how you respond to things that don’t go your way. You’ll see if you’re a carrot, egg or coffee bean.
When you don’t get your way, how do you respond? Do you instantly feel your chest tighten and your hands slowly curl into a fist? Do you need to bite your lip for fear of mentally losing it? Do you lash out with a swift volley of $%&@#* all designed to keep the negative intrusion at bay? Do you look to blame others? Do you revert to the past? Do you replay it in disbelief?
What do you do when things go wrong?
How long does it take to get a clear head? How much time goes by before you can have reason over emotion? Where is reason and why does it flee when bad times roll?
Do you remain the optimist when things go wrong? How you handle setbacks is one of the keys to successful living. As you climb to the apex of your success, hone your survival skills just in case things go wrong.

PS: I want to be the coffee bean.

Welcome to the Jim Fannin Show! Happy Halloween. What a fun time of year! This week’s episode is NOT about trick-or-treat. But it is about the mindset of children and what we can learn from the little ones we love. This is a gamechanger!
Why did you learn more from birth to five years old than the rest of your life combined? What prompted this super learning? My research from 1974-1984 with over 250,000 children ages 3-8 years old revealed that as a child you experienced the following:
Basically, you lived in or near the Zone mindset of a purposeful calm where everything seemed possible. Isn’t it time to be a kid again? I promised myself that when I departed this earth a kid would die in my old body. Rekindle super-learning. Increase your daily performances and remember this:
Be a kid again!
Next…we drive up to the Zone Café to ascertain our weak link in our overall attitude.
Finally…get ready for your greatest November ever! Prepare and visualize your macro goals in this important 11th month of 2019. Note 11/3 as Daylight Saving ends so adjust your clocks and brain. Celebrate and honor Veterans Day on Monday, 11/11. Know that Thanksgiving is 11/28. Don’t forget 11/29 is Black Friday so get ready for shopping bargains for the upcoming holidays.

Welcome to the Jim Fannin Show! This week’s episode is about the Teeter Totter Effect and how to reset your 2019 performance to a championship level.
His putting was amazing. Everything that he rolled found the cup. If he could only have more opportunities, but his iron play was off. He either pulled it or pushed it and his accuracy was inconsistent and unpredictable. Fast forward one week…“My iron play has come around,” he gloated. I’m striping it! I just wish I could buy a putt.” The Teeter-Totter Effect has arrived.
This up and down, on again and off again performance is prevalent in life, business, and sports. Fix your marriage…struggle with parenting. Fix your finances…can’t fit into your pants because you’ve gained an extra 15 pounds. How do you fix the inconsistencies? How do you quell the wild fluctuations in your life?
Welcome to the Teeter-Totter Effect
When you are focused on one thing, it’s easy to forget something else. Focus on your swing and you don’t focus on your stance. Focus on your forehand and you forget to pay attention to your serve. The Teeter-Totter Effect is normal. It happens to everyone. It is commonplace.
When you focus on one aspect of your life, golf game or business, remind yourself to still remain positive about the items that don’t have your full attention. Refuse to put them down. Don’t talk about them as if they are real living things. “My swing is letting me down,” I recently heard from a client. Really? You are letting you down!
Eliminate negativity when any part of your sport, business or life suffers from your lack of intention or neglect. Avoid negative thoughts and statements when things don’t meet your expectations.
The champion works on all parts of his or her life, business or sport. The difference is they remain steadfast in holistically seeing the sum of their parts as the best. Weaknesses are not weaknesses. They are areas of growth. They are challenges that inspire the champion in thinking and acting positive.
To combat the Teeter-Totter Effect extreme positivity must be in force. Have no thoughts of being a victim or a judge. And it ‘s the irate and disappointed judge in you that disrupts the playground with a mental sledgehammer to the low end of the teeter-totter.
Balance is the key to a successful life. Thought equilibrium will keep you at a high daily standard and from here it’s a short hop away to a peak performance Zone state.
Recently, a young golfer was riding the highs and lows of the Teeter-Totter Effect. He pledged he would start selling himself on the awesomeness of himself. Five days and nights in a row his positive self-talk was exemplary. He was the poster guy for positive belief and expectancy. When a part of his game was down, he pictured it up. Relentless was his positivity! Results of 67-66-72 arrived and victory was his reward.
How do you escape from the positive-negative Teeter-Totter Effect? Create your daily standard or your individual performance standard? This is a minimum requirement for a satisfactory performance, according to you.
It’s been about a little over nine months since you set your annual vision and goals for 2019. How are you doing? Do you stay the course? What do you adjust? Do some of your challenges keep you up at night? Is it time for a reset?
In the month of October four people told me in different ways, “I’m at a dead end!” Each spoke of their job, relationship, parenting, family, health or life in general. This is a doom and gloom thought and self-fulfilling prophecy about one’s plight. Each person needs a reset.
What’s going on? Where’s the positive, upbeat spirit? Before the year is over, consider a “reset” for your business, family, wellness, or significant other. Today marks the start of your sprint to close Q4 strong. You can still accomplish a lot in this quarter.
“Hope” is ready when you are
Sometimes a dead end can be reached in a relationship. You’ve tried everything to no avail. The chemistry is not what it used to be. Thoughts have turned to greener pastures and the guilt of that is overwhelming. You feel at an impasse. “What am I to do?”
Your business can have stagnant sales and diminishing profits. Analyzing every line item on the profit & loss statement and there is still no visible traction for a rebound. Despair, depression and anguish abound. And worry…it can envelope a psyche like a winter quilt. The dead end has been reached. Or has it? Maybe you need a reset.
Your child and you were inseparable. She or he couldn’t wait to go shopping with you or play a game or a sport? Remember those days? Now the teenager in the upstairs room refuses to look you in the eye. Helping you around the house is approached with eye-rolls and dread. Is this your kid? What happened to the bond? Where’s the 2-way communication? Is grunting an answer really an answer? Have you dangled the old, “Wait until your 18?” or “When I was your age…” and found a glazed-over look like the shark in Jaws. Are you at a dead end with the child in the house? Could be time for a reset.
Hit the ground running. No more dead ends. Have an open road to whatever you want in life. Have you made a few “dead end” mistakes this year? Take these life lessons and utilize their teachings for a better you. Part of a successful life is the understanding of what you don’t want, while removing it forever. Learn from your errant ways and move on swiftly.
Envision a clear pathway to a better relationship. See your family with peace and harmony.
Visualize more money and more fun acquiring it. Mentally embrace a healthy ending to 2019. Picture your wellness at an all-time high. And foresee your teenager asking you to “hang out.”
Take down the rear view mirror. Map your life’s path avoiding all dead ends. Get started now. What are you waiting on?

The post Jim Fannin Show: 7 Tips To Reset 2019 appeared first on Radio Influence.
Welcome to the Jim Fannin Show! Today’s episode is all about hope.
Hope: the feeling of wanting something to happen and thinking that it could happen: a feeling that something good will happen or be true.
Do you want a better life? Of course, you do! Do you have hope? Is your hope relentlessly consistent? Does it fluctuate, depending on the day?
It may be time to migrate to a different mindset. Today, tens of thousands of refugees from various countries are fleeing the negatives of their situation, condition or circumstance. They collectively run from religious, political and social oppression with all seeking a refuge of independence, freedom, and possibility. Many leave their homes with little more than the clothes on their backs.
Mental migration (although not physical) is a similar journey of hope. Would you like to be free from worry, anxiety and negative stress? Are you fatigued from the negative rhetoric of our times? Tens of millions of people from various backgrounds are making their personal, psychological and spiritual journey to a better life. This phenomenon is happening now. People around the world want freedom from negativity, while they pursue their vision of prosperity. This positive quest for a new beginning requires discipline, focus and of course, hope. Above all, it requires courage to change.
Positive mental transformation always necessitates releasing or letting go of what does not serve you now.
In the 1880’s American pioneers seeking a better life met their geographical challenges of mountains, rivers, deserts and plains by lessening their loads. Many mountain passes that offered trails over the Rocky Mountains into California were littered with discarded pianos, china, farm equipment and personal belongings. Similar to our forefathers, carrying your burdens with you as you travel your mental journey for simplicity, balance and abundance is an arduous, if not impossible task. You must discard what slows you down.
I once asked four young professional athletes to run three, separate 100-yard races on three subsequent days. Once each race was over their individual times were recorded. They were only competing for their best individual time.
Prior to the 1st race they were asked to think about the challenges in their sport as they ran. These thoughts while running produced each runner’s worst performance.
Prior to the 2nd race they were asked to think about their vision for success, as if it was waiting for them at the finish line. Thinking about their vision produced the fastest times for all in the race.
Prior to the last race they were giving no instructions but to run as fast as they could. Although the race times were close to each runner’s best, the results showcased their 2nd best result.
Running with the burden of their challenges produced the worst result, while running with hope produced their best.
As you experience the remaining days of 2019, it may be time to release everything in your life that is holding you back. This includes negative thoughts and emotions, bad physical and mental habits, unhealthy relationships, old hurts, jealousies, grudges, resentments, and regrets. Anything that burdens your mind needs to be released before you can ascend to a more peaceful and purposeful life.
Place on one sheet of paper your independent life arenas of Self (this includes your nutrition, spirituality and physical wellbeing), Finance (personal), Career/job, Friends, Parenting, Relationship, Son or Daughter, Sibling and or Hobby.
Ask yourself these questions as you review each arena. Let your answers inspire you toward a better life.
If you are already on this mental journey, you may need to re-ask these questions. If you are just starting, then you may need to give them more judicious thought and care.
Even though many migrants are unsure of their fate, all have one thing in common.
Hope
Hope for a better place than where you are right now. Hope that knows if you stay where you are, hope will soon diminish.
See what you want. Understand and accept the challenges. Know the possible risks. Commit to action with a sense of urgency. Receive addition by subtraction. Purposefully move with hope to your place of simplicity, balance and abundance. Can you have it all? Yes…when you’ve reduced your load.
As you run with hope, don’t forget to give hope to others that may need a helping hand. At a recent party I witnessed hope being packaged, soon be delivered through an act of kindness. I asked several people gathered on an outside balcony, “What is on your bucket list?” The answers were varied with “Walk the Great Wall of China,” “Visit the ancient ruins of Manchu Picchu in Peru,” “Run with the bulls in Pamplona,” and “Tour the world in 90-days.” Then I asked 6’6” 260+ lb. Albert and without hesitation he said, “Buy a house for a homeless man.” Stunned silence arrived. A man this big would be expected to have big dreams and a big bucket list. Not Albert! His instant thought was an image of a future kind act that seeks no fanfare or ballyhoo. It turned out he has had this thought for some time and he is determined to manifest this vision of kindness. His savings account was growing with kind deposits of money in order to deliver hope to the hopeless.
Offering a kind act with no thought of a personal return eludes most people in our chaotic, selfish world today. However, kind acts delivered with love and caring do have positive returns for the giver. We feel better. We feel proud. We feel hope. It even bolsters our self-esteem. The receiver of an unsolicited, compassionate act typically reflects genuine gratitude and it is this return that places this experience in indelible ink inside the skulls of both participants.
My friend Jimmy donates time and money to help a disabled friend every month with errands or chores. He never complains or seeks recognition. He just does it because he is a kind soul.
America has always been a nation with a big heart of giving. It begins with us. With your personal beacon of hope, give a smile of kindness. This costs nothing but good intention. Offer to cut your elderly neighbor’s grass, volunteer at your local youth center, or donate time or money to a local charity.
Recently, I was on a crowded bus taking me to my rental car and an elderly woman got on board with no place to sit. A little voice whispered in my ear, “Get up and give her your seat!” Thanks Mom. I learned my kindness from you.
Run with hope. Be kind. America needs you!

The post Jim Fannin Show: The Mental Migration Of Hope appeared first on Radio Influence.
Welcome to the Jim Fannin Show. Most of us are very good or even great in one aspect of our lives. It is this primary arena that most of us tend to place all our happy eggs. We are all in with our career. When it goes right, our relationships flourish and our other life arenas fall in line. But when things go wrong, all of your life arenas can be negatively impacted.
In this week’s episode, you learn how some of my clients are positively transitioning from one aspect of their lives to another. This transition from work to family and vice versa takes less than 90-seconds.
Hear about the following:
PARENT:
He is a great father of three boys. With his wife he has a plan for each child. He thinks of his kids daily as a guide, teacher and mentor. He looks at their future and sees his children thriving. He knows their shortcomings and nudges them daily, step by step to a better place. Being the best father he can be takes time and energy. It’s his quest. It requires patience, wisdom, understanding and decisiveness. Above all it takes commitment and consistency. He’s prepared to pay the price of sacrifice.
SPOUSE:
He is a devoted husband. He is a rare breed. He has loved her for over 25 years. His eyes never wander. His mind remains true. There is no envy. There are no comparisons. There are no putdowns. None. That’s because there is no other. She is his life. Even though the world has become more complicated than when he first dated, their love is still fresh and vibrant. Shared vision brought them together as one. It’s kept them together through tough times. It’s a beacon for his and her next steps.
CAREER:
He is a business owner. With the ferocious competition, his challenge is even more formidable. Positively influencing the thoughts of prospects, clients and his team members is a daily, daunting task. Overseeing dozens of mindsets is an everyday activity. With it comes the inherent task of managing other people’s expectations with the reality of their efforts. All of his team is on the same page. Business is the best it’s been in over 20 years. Business is solid and he’s on schedule to exceed his lofty goals. He is a business champion.
HOBBY:
He is a golfer. He loves it. It’s been his passion for a decade. He pushes to lower his handicap at every turn. For over a decade he’s chased the coveted season-ending title. His pursuit of excellence is positive and on-track to produce his best ever golf season and his lowest handicap.
The scenarios above are real. They happened. Like a reality show each played in its time slot uninterrupted with no commercials. The scenes were performed in a purposeful calm mindset.
Can you have it all?
Yes. Each of these italicized stories simultaneously occurred with one person. That’s right! The golfer, husband, father and business owner are one person. He’s real. I coach him. Is he perfect? He is far from perfect. But he’s happy and loving life to the fullest. Does he have time for himself? He does. And he’s working on doing that better as well. And there are many like him that I coach and that includes amazing women. With the S.C.O.R.E.® Success System tucked under their arms, these advocates are simplifying and balancing their lives every single day. The true champion is alive and well in 2019.
I also discuss the mindset of a professional athlete. This person is playing now in the MLB Play-offs. He is locked in the Zone. A major battle of epic proportion is being waged and the small skirmishes begin and end. Throughout the night, one opponent after another take turns to defeat him. After 27 skirmishes the war is over. He is the victor and he gave up only five hits and two runs to the formidable competition. Now sitting in front of his locker, this superior athlete is exhausted. He puts his head into his hands and swiftly reflects on his brilliant accomplishment.
This is the life of a Major League Baseball pitcher. It is a typical night of intense competition. Some games he wins and some he loses. Regardless of the outcome, he began each performance by putting on a serious game face as he transitioned into the spotlight of 40,000 plus spectators and millions of television viewers. All eyes are on him. Many revere him, while there are those that passionately can’t stand his demeanor, performance and overall look. Such is life as a professional athlete.
For now, his work is done! With adrenaline, glycogen and other natural chemicals of peak performance that flowed through his veins, he is finally left with the competitive residue that can easily last throughout the night. Silently, he shuts his eyes and clears the intense, aggressive and dominant persona from his mind. This modern-day Jekyll and Hyde is now ready to transition again.
“Hi Daddy! How’d you do?” says his young daughter. “Way to go Dad!” shouts his young son. His daughter, son and loving, devoted wife are the loves of his life. He melts at the sight of his children. However, they both stand waiting for him to hug Mommy. Then and only then does he embrace his young brood.
He never violates the 90-Second Rule!
The rest of the night this world-class athlete is a model parent and devoted husband. His awesome pitching performance is not mentioned. It is not discussed. The transition from ballplayer to family man is complete. Tomorrow he’ll transition from his family back to his world of intensity and brutal competition.
Are you transitioning in a positive way from one life arena to another?
When you spill negative emotions from business to home or vice versa, negative consequences will occur.

Welcome to the Jim Fannin Show! It’s officially October and we are underway into the 4th quarter. As you peruse your remaining visions and goals, check if they have been set too high or too low. In on-boarding clients over the last 40+ years, I’ve had to bump each person’s vision and goals at least 25%, especially where it pertains to money. I even had an NCAA golf champion look me in the eye and tell me that he didn’t think the world’s #1 title and even the top #10 on the PGA Tour were possible. Needless to say, he reached world #1 status and finished the year as Player of the Year. Most of us do not think BIG enough.
Most don’t have the eye of the tiger.
What was your biggest dream? Did you accomplish it? If not, does it still rattle around in your mind? Have you given up on it or forgotten it altogether?
What is thinking big for you now! What dream is still possible for Q4? Does this thought take you out of your comfort zone?
It’s not too late as you do have 91 days left in 2019! In the last year, I’ve seen a retired professional baseball player return to school to acquire his PhD. I know a woman who recently started her own clothing business. A young college football coach has visions of roaming the professional gridiron as a head coach. He has a plan in place and the pro ranks have already noticed him. Another college coach recently saw his dream of guiding the best college golf team in America and a former teacher now has her own publishing company.
Dream big! Make it happen.
Risin’ up, back on the street
So many times, it happens too fast
It’s the eye of the tiger, it’s the thrill of the fight
Face to face, out in the heat
It’s the eye of the tiger, it’s the dream of the fight
Risin’ up, straight to the top
It’s the eye of the tiger, it’s the dream of the fight
The eye of the tiger
There’s one thing I want you to do for me. Come here. Win.
Most big dreams and the “Eye of the Tiger” are stymied because of excuses. Tennis great John McEnroe told me a long time ago, “Excuses are for losers!” He was right. Tear down your invisible safety net that keeps you from the high wire of possibility. Dreaming big takes a leap of faith. You must believe. You must expect. You must know deep in your heart that you can and will prevail.
Take your dreams out of their mental closet. Dust them off and inspect their possibility.
Here are four questions asked of thousands of champions during my career. These questions were also asked of all new clients. As you embark on a new quarter in your life, how will you answer them?
Finally, we visit the Zone Café to determine the missing link in reaching the Zone of peak performance.
They say NO to big dreams. They? Who are they? They are the dream killers. They are the ones that are cowards. They? They are the meek. They are the real ones with no courage. Yes. They are realistic. Yes. They know the odds BUT “They” don’t know YOU!
Dream big. Good fortune favors the Eye of the Tiger.
