  • Deportation Drama and Gold Obsession (Hour 2)

John and Gordy tackle the chaotic world of current events, starting with the controversial deportation of two German teens from Hawaii for lack of hotel bookings, sparking tourism concerns. The conversation shifts to the Supreme Court’s mixed decisions, including a surprising defense of Obamacare and a troubling stance on gun rights for youths. The show also covers Trump’s bizarre gold obsession, as discussed on The Daily Show, and a comedic take on authoritarian aesthetics. Guest Jim Santel weighs in on legal challenges facing the Trump administration and the importance of due process. A lively mix of legal insights, comedic banter, and a sprinkle of absurdity.

  • From Puppet Shows to Putin's Pipeline

Broadcasting chaos ensues as John and Gordy juggle puppet shows, weather roulette, and fire alarms. They reminisce about Earth Day’s origins, ponder America’s obsession with jelly beans, and debate the best Girl Scout cookies—revealing a soft spot for trefoils. As hilarity unfolds, a sinister plot thickens: Elon Musk’s AI is allegedly spying on federal employees, with potential Russian data breaches via Starlink. The hosts lament political absurdity, from Trump’s egg price faux pas to Dr. Oz’s health hacks. Amidst the comedic banter, a chilling whistleblower revelation warns of Russia tapping into the National Labor Relations Board. Stay tuned for more shenanigans!

  • In Defense of Academic Freedom

In hour two, we begin with a review of the president’s Easter message, put out on social media. In this heartfelt, tear-inducing release, he (briefly) mentions the happy meaning of Easter, using the rest of it to complain about the influx of America-haters, gang members, criminals, and others into the country. We learn about more book bans happening at military bases (though Mein Kampf gets an exception!), then take a much-needed break from politics as we talk weather with our WMDX meteorologist Brittney Merlot. Despite our attempt at a break from the news, Brittney too gets sucked into the discussion, as we learn about a woman who dated only far-right men for a year, getting her take on the results. Later, we welcome on former Madison Mayor Paul Soglin, talking this time around about how universities like Harvard are taking a stand against government overreach, in favor of academic freedom. We also get his take on some local news organizations who “have it out for him.” In his words though, its been happening his whole life (lol). Wrapping up the show, the guys talk psychology and empathy – or the lack thereof by Elon Musk.

  • Hunting Wabbits

John and Gordy begin the week with the big news from overnight – Pope Francis has died. Now for the next week the news cycle will be all Pope, all the time. The guys also reflect on Easter over the weekend, and John’s ongoing war against the rabbits in his yard. Gordy also delves into his yard work from the weekend before taking a look at the National Day Calendar. After checking in with Sam for Today in History, we dive into more Idiocracy (it never ends), talking Trump, JD Vance, and the demagogues in power beneath them.

  • How Big is a Ping Pong Ball?

We kick off hour two with our weekly check in with WMDX News Bureau Chief, Savanna Tomei-Olson, with a recap of the firing of Madison’s city clerk, and rising prices of eggs and chocolate as we head into Easter. The guys then dive into more short stories, each of which meets their rapid end in the dumpster fire. We check in with Brittney Merlot, our WMDX Meteorologist, as the hail continues to fall outside the studio. Later, as we end every week, we welcome in Rökker, part of the Max Ink Radio team, for a preview of this weekend’s show and a look at local bands you don’t want to miss!

  • Throw It In The Dumpster

Its Friday! John recounts a drag race he witnessed this morning on campus drive while heading to the station. We get an update on the development of John’s pristine (brown) lawn, and Gordy takes the reins for today’s National Day Calendar. After an abridged version of Today in History with Sam, we dive into Idiocracy, and resurrect an old feature: Dumpster Fire Friday! Its a rapid-fire of stories, on topics ranging from the political fallout of natural disasters, to a lesson in WOKE therapy, to Trump’s hot take on how the EU was created to destroy US trade (lol).

  • Schooled on Movies and the Paper

Its a busy hour two! We’ve got more talk of Harvard, now standing up to the Trump administration to kick things off. In a break from politics, we get the inside on the outside, weather we like it or not, with Brittney Merlot, and chat with some callers before the bottom of the hour. Later, we welcome to the show Cara Ogburn, Artistic Director of the Milwaukee Film Festival, to talk about some of the movies showing in brew city over the next couple weeks. Wrapping up the show, we chat with Judy Davidoff, publisher of the Isthmus, about some of the stories in this month’s issue.

  • Steak Sauce at Harvard

We begin the show today talking lawns, as John tells of his perpetually dying grass – and the plan to fix it (hint, he decided not to steal his neighbor’s lawn). We check out the National Day Calendar while ridiculing High Five Day, before jumping into Today in History with our producer Sam. Later, we welcome on Dr. Tim Slekar for his weekly appearance, to discuss the best steak sauce, A1. Or, that’s what Education Secretary Linda McMahon thinks – who has confused the condiment with AI (artificial intelligence). We also chat about Harvard, who, despite losing billions in federal grant funding, is finally standing up to Trump. Despite this, Tim is worried that institutions that don’t have the clout of Harvard won’t be able to do the same thing.

  • Evil Triplets

The Big Story of hour two is the news that Trump plans to close 30 embassies across the globe (!). We also talk about his plan to strip regulations of shower heads, put in place by the Biden administration, amid complaints that they don’t provide enough water pressure. Speaking of pressure, Brittney Merlot, our WMDX Meteorologist enlightens us to the news that the high pressure system we’re in will mean good weather today. Later, as we do every Wednesday, we welcome in Mike McCabe to chat about his most recent Substack article, on the evils of isolationism, protectionism, and nativism. Mike and the guys wrap up the hour chatting about hope, as well as the dire situation we face – since Harvard now sees taking an 8 billion dollar grant cut as more righteous, and less threatening, than the culture and information war by the Trump administration. Finally, someone has the guts to stand up.

  • Day-O

John, Gordy, and their producer Sam begin with banter about the latest random song to pop into John’s head, as the sun rises faster and faster. Amidst talk of today’s fake holidays on the National Day Calendar, we hear about Sam’s latest project – the holy grail of vintage radios. We find out more wild, wacky topics like the radioactivity of bananas and LSD during Today in History, before we finally get serious, covering Idiocracy. We take aim at Mike Johnson, soft spoken and kind appearing, despite his push for the impending Republican tax cut – the biggest boost the the debt in national history (!). Wrapping up the first hour, we welcome in Lis Johnston, owner of Serenity Pet Spa, and world-class dog groomer. She chats about her unique approach to grooming dogs, and why she and her team are able to provide a real ‘spa’ experience for pets.
