This past September I met with my mastermind for what has turned into a yearly event; our Think Out Loud Retreat.

In today's episode I bring them on to talk about what has changed in the past year since our last meet up an the last episode they were on (Ep 38).  We named the retreat, we named our mastermind The Boardroom Mastermind, and I personally got a renewed sense of entrepreneurship, commitment to my goals, and belief in the incredible support system I have built in place around me with this group.

While primarily based in Puerto Rico, Mio is expanding into the US as well and bringing high quality digital services to the latin community. Our on-going joke in the group is that whatever you need Osvaldo has a tool or resources for it.

Erica runs a travel agency booking exotic trips to the Caribbean, the Gulf, and abroad. She has a blog and a podcast each packed full of resources to make your next trip be the best you have been on.

Marla Martinez ~ Isla Mujeres Vacation Rentals, Javis's Cantina, Course Consultant,
Marla has a number of vacation rentals on the island of Isla Mujeres in Mexico, as well as owning a restaurant Javi's Cantina. This doesn't even cover the Etsy shop, the Dinnertainment services, or the many other businesses Marla runs simultaneously.

Every year between Halloween weekend and Nov 14th I make a list of my plans for the upcoming year. 

I take a weekend to look at the previous year and think about where I am right now and ask myself 3 questions;

• Who do I want to be?
• What do I want to do?
• Where do I want to go?

I have my list outlined and ready to go for the upcoming year. I have my rudder, my Google Maps, I have my direction.

Now is the time for you to be intentional about where you are headed with your life and your business in the upcoming year.

The Baby Steps Dave has outlined all work together to lead you to this point in life. Take back control of you time and money, live the life you want to live, help others along the way.

Once you have complete control of your time and income you have options to do darn near anything you want. Going through the Baby Steps in order gets you to this point.

To recap all the baby steps;
Baby Step 1; $1,000 Starter emergency fund
Baby Step 2; Pay off all non-mortgage debt
Baby Step 3; Save 3-6 month full emergency fund
Baby Step 4; Invest 15% into retirement
Baby Step 5; Kids College
Baby Step 6; Pay off the mortgage
Baby Step 7; Build Wealth & Give

While many want to start on this step I see the benefits of starting on the first step and walking your way up.

Dave Ramsey's Baby Steps 4, 5, & 6 - Investing, College, & the Mortgage all happen at the same time in Dave's plan so I wanted to cover them all at once in the same episode.

• Baby Step 4; Invest 15% of your income for retirement.
• Baby Step 5; Save/Invest for kids college.
• Baby Step 6; Pay off your home mortgage.

These steps are where most people disagree with Dave and his process whereas I love what they have outlined. 

I'm going to take the next 42 mins to outline the 3 steps and hopefully shed a little light on the process. Next episode we will wrap up the Dave Ramsey series with the final baby step.

Dave Ramsey's Baby Step 3 - Save A 3-6 Month Emergency Fund is the one I resonate with the most (so yeah, continuing a series on DR).

Dave Ramey’s whole platform is to build wealth because building wealth allows you to have control of you time and money, which will let you live the life you want to live rather than the life you are handed.

Once your debt is gone the next step in the plan is to create a financial buffer between you and life because guess what; life is going to happen.

Some say save up 3 months of living expenses, some say save up 6 months of living expenses, some say save up 1 year of living expenses, I say just save something.

An emergency fund turns an emergency from an emergency into an inconvenience.

I want to talk about Dave Ramsey's Baby Step 2 - Pay Off All Non-Mortgage Debt in this episode (so yes, we are doing a series now).

Dave Ramey’s whole platform is to build wealth because building wealth allows you to have control of you time and money, which will let you live the life you want to live rather than the life you are handed.

Debt is an obligation that requires one party, the debtor, to pay money or other agreed-upon value to another party, the creditor. Debt is a deferred payment, or series of payments, which differentiates it from an immediate purchase.

Do you really want to owe someone else money for X years just because it is a low interest rate? Or for the tax break? Or because you can invest and earn the difference?

Debt is debt is debt is debt.

In recent months I have had numerous conversation with people telling me why Dave Ramsey is wrong and how his system (The Baby Steps) is only for people who do not know how manage their money, or those who are deeply in debt. I couldn't disagree more.

In this episode I want to dive into the very first Baby Step; Save $1,000 as a Starter Emergency Fund and why I believe this applies to anyone on any income level, any debt level, or any financial education level.

Life happens and life happens fast. $1,000 is not enough but it is better than zero. You may not agree with Dave Ramsey’s program overall but I think we can all agree $1,000 set aside for emergencies only is better than having nothing in your account when those emergencies hit.

Personally, or entrepreneurially, $1,000 will not change your life but it may keep your life from changing. Tune in, let's discuss.

AirBnB Experiences are a fun way to meet new people for your business you may not have otherwise been connected with.

In this episode I break down my plans to begin using AirBnB Experiences in photography and the necessary steps I have to take in order to move me towards that goal.

I wrap the niche of photography around AirBnB Experiences, but this is something most niches can consider adding into their marketing mix. Live events come in many shapes and forms and instead of trying to sell out an arena an AirBnB Experiences is a great way to test the market with smaller, local, easily controlled events in your niche.
