- This is one of those interviews where I related to so much. Talking Shop. Many don't know, but before photography and podcasting I used to be a barber for many years. It's really, I believe, what got my creative juices flowing. But from working a full time job, a newborn little girl, and balancing time at the barbershop, it got to a point where I got burned out and lost the drive. Something ( the drive), I see in Rafa. First time meeting him was on the podcast, but from just listening to him and his story, I see in him what I used to carry back when i had first started, DRIVE!! This was an awesome interview, and really loved getting his perspective on barbering, and relating to alot being a barber in someone else's shop. -I recently had the chance to work alongside my brother/best friend (1 of 2), Tim Acang. I mention this dudes name on almost every podcast lol. But its for a reason. He played a BIG part in why im a photographer today. We captured video (Tim) and photographs (me), at a wedding a couple weeks ago. The experience throught the day was nothing short of hectic, fun, and eye opening for us both! We learned how each other works under stressfull situations, how to balance each others time, and how to work in unity with each others differences. - Etiquette. It's a word most people asking a professional for their services have forgotten. I can't count the times ive gotten a message that starts and ends like this... " how much for pictures" or " how much for a photo session".... ( face palm)... The proper way is to ALWAYS introduce yourself before ever asking any questions. We are not craiglist professionals. ( nothing against the hustle or craigslist). Im just trying to educate people on the correct way to get intouch with any creative out there who is providing you a service. So not to point out anyone in particular, or anything like that. This goes to everyone in general. So listen in to get me and my wifes opinion on the matter!!

LIST OF TIPS:

 

1- Clean your gear. ( Never clean sensor unless you have experience)

2- Keep the lens caps on when not in use, and use lens hoods for protection.

3- Keep your gear stored away in camera back or some sort of cabinet. Always keep your camera bag closed when not in use.

4- Have your gear insured.

5- Software/Firmware updates

6- Screen Protector

7- Adjust your viewfinder focus every so often.

8- Have some type of cover/case, or quick release plate on your camera body.

9- Lens filters. ( Hoya, Tiffen, etc)

10- Never use canned air.

Episode 14:

- Why are new photographers who come into this industry, not able to tell a GREAT photo from a CRAPPY one?! Im by no means a perfect photographer, or the best out there (by far), but im sure I can tell the difference between a snap shot, and a great photograph. I believe alot of these new young photographers are blind to the fact of honesty. Instead of holding one another accountable when we make mistakes, or take a bad picture, we glorify ignorance and bad work, in the name of either friendship, or social acceptance. We need to as a whole, learn to know when our work is crappy or just a snap shot, and really grow from it into what we can really accept as "Good" work. I still make mistakes and take bad snaps, but I know when to and not show it. It defines who you are as a Photographer. Lets grow together!

- Growing up in a latino house hold back in the 90's and early 2000's was definitely an experience for most, if not all of the latin culture out there. You either came from a very strict, religious family. Or you didnt. But for most of us, I believe it was the first. Talking to the guys from Mala Leche definitely made me relate to their up bringing. But I also believe, that that up bringing is what shaped us and gave us that open mindset, to be the creatives that we are today. Photographers, Graphic Designers, Musicians, you name it we have touched it. We cover alot of topics in this cast that I believe not just latinos out there will relate to, but anybody in general growing up in that environment.
