Tom gives us a take every week and, this season, we'd like to highlight those ina series called "Just The Takes."  This one was the first take from our new season and our awesome episode with Nick Davis - director of the 30 for 30 series "Once Upon a Time in Queens." 

This take is all about doing what it takes to really go somewhere and the value such an excursion gives us.  And it also gives us a chance to consider what "dryer balls" can tell us about our genetics.

Note: "Dryer Balls" are not to be confused with "Drier Balls." Oh what a difference a little letter can make.

Col. Bruce Hampton, Ret. is one of the most enigmatic and influential characters in rock music history, and it takes a brave and committed character to try to capture all of that enigma. Jerry Grillo, with his biography "The Music and Mythorcracy of Col. Bruce Hampton" has done just that!

In this episode we talk synchronicities, idiosyncracies and our appreciation for the broad ranging influence of Col. Bruce - from his time as the front man of the legendary Hampton Grease Band, to his later years with Aquarium Rescue Unit, and to his most legendary exit from this earthly plane - on stage at his 70th birthday party.

Nick Davis is an author and director of many things, but most recently he directed a documentary about the World Champion 1986 Mets as part of ESPN's 30 for 30 franchise. Simultaneously, he finished up a book about his grandfather and great uncle "Competing with Idiots." The book chronicles the lives of Herman and Joe Mankiewicz of "Citizen Kane" fame (among others).

Joe Zimmerman has a soothing voice. A long-time Asheville resident, Joe has carved out his own highly successful path through the comedy world finding his way onto stages like "The Late Late Show," John Oliver's New York Stand Up Show and the Montreal "Just for Laughs" festival. Glenis shares so much about herself and her journey as a poet, cancer survivor, Gigi, mother and Black Carolinian. Ehren Cruz has made a real shift! After seven years as Artistic Director with the world famous Lake Eden Arts Festival, Ehren found himself in need of a change when the pandemic hit and there was no art to direct. So some soul searching and a few months later, Ehren has launched a career helping people to transform their mental and spiritual states - sometimes involving experiences with psychedelic and entheogenic substances. Ehren shares all he is learning as he moves into this exciting field and we get a chance to devour it all with him along with other topics like Catching (particularly 22), Falling, Tripping, and Barbecuing.

Alli Marshall has been devouring the arts and entertainment scene in Asheville for years. As the long time A&E columnist for local Mountain Xpress weekly news journal, Alli has scene just about every band, dance/theatre troupe, and comedian that has graced a stage in Asheville. As a performer and poet, she's created works of her own for the Asheville Fringe Festival (among other stages) and is now working to help local artists elevate their own voices as an artists' media consultant in her new venture - AM/FM Broadcast.
