Canberra Raiders prop Josh Papalii announced his retirement from State of Origin earlier this week.

After representing Queensland on 23 occasions, the 31-year-old has called time on his Origin career.

"I think my footy's been okay this year, but I just think it was my time to hang the boots up in the Origin arena." Papalii said.

"I didn't want to make a big deal out of it but I spoke to Sticky Ricky Stuart a day before and he told me to make it a big deal."
