Out quick daily devotion this morning comes from Matthew 4:1-4 (NKJV)

I’m so inspired and encouraged through Jesus’s example to spend time in the scripture and memorize it so that I’m ready when the moment of greatest temptation comes up out of no where.

Matthew 4:1-4 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. 3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.”

Wow! Pretty strong verses here. Apparently John the Baptist didn’t have anymore affinity for the religious people of his day than Jesus did. I’m reminded of the verse in John 4:23 where Jesus says, “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.”

Paul says listen I’ve been low and destitute and I’ve abounded with plenty, but through it all I’ve learned that I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.

12 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

Our devotion comes from Philippians 4:11 (NKJV)

Paul who is in prison as he writes the book of Philippians states that he’s learned to be content in whatever state he’s in. Contentment in our current situation is a matter of us choosing to trust God. It doesn’t mean that we don’t strive or work towards a better situation, but we can choose joy and contentment in the current situation we find ourselves in. May God helps each of us develop a mindset of contentment because wherever we go there we are. We all know people who have everything others think will be bring contentment and yet in some cases they are the most unhappy people.

In the context of experiencing a peace that surpasses all understanding Paul leaves us with one final charge. He says meditate or think on the following things:

8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

Paul lays out 5 things we must do in order to experience the peace of God which surpasses all understanding.
