Our devotion this morning comes from Philippians 4:4 (NKJV)
Paul writes the book of Philippians from jail and isn’t it ironic that the book is often referred to as the book of joy? Just shows that we can choose joy in the Lord in whatever circumstance we find ourselves in!
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!
Our devotion this morning comes from Philippians 3:12-14 (NKJV)
Paul says he’s putting the past behind and him and channeling his time, focus and energy on reaching forward to the price of God in Christ Jesus. The question for us today is are we living our life as if there is truly a prize ahead, waiting on us in heaven, that is worthy of us pursuing it with all of our heart, mind, soul and strength.
12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
Our devotion this morning comes from Philippians 3:9-11 (NKJV)
and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;
Our devotion this morning comes from Philippians 3:7-8 (NKJV)
Paul by most people’s standards had it all before coming to have a personal relationship with Jesus. He was a respected leader, very religious, very well educated, knew the scriptures backwards and forward and came from the right family. Yet even with all of this and more he says all of it was rubbish and he gladly gave it all up for a personal relationship with Jesus that isn’t based up on his work but on Jesus and his finished work on the cross.
But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ.
Our devotion this morning comes from Psalm 46:10 NKJV
I pray that this verse will comfort and speak to you as it has me this week. Too often it’s hard to slow down in the midst of our fast paced lives, but I’m reminded that God is God and he has the whole world in his hand. I need to slow down for a moment and rest in this beautiful truth. Let’s take a moment to be still long enough to hear his quiet whisper in our soul.
Be still, and know that I am God;
Our devotion this morning comes from Psalm 73:25-26 (KJV)
John Brandon, the former Apple Vice President of International, when speaking to a group of faith driven entrepreneurs said, “God wants us to love him and worship him for who he is not what he does for us.” As we ponder whether our love for him is tied to what he does for us let’s read King David’s words in Psalms.
25 Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.
Our devotion this morning comes from Philippians 2:12-15 (NKJV)
“Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,”
This morning’s devotion comes from Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV)
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
This morning’s devotion comes from Philippians 2:7 (KJV)
So inspired to be more like Jesus who didn’t consider his rightful place in heaven with God as something to be used for his own advantage, but instead gave up his reputation and come to earth in the form of a servant and humbled himself unto death on a cross. This verse is so convicting and causes me to ask myself how can I think less of myself and my reputation and more about how I can serve others without personal benefit.
Verse 7 “But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men”.
