The Book of Joshua simply continues the narrative that has run from Genesis—Deuteronomy. Following the death of Moses, Joshua is appointed by the Lord to lead Israel in taking the land promised to Abraham. This land can only be taken by faith in obedience to the Law (see Deut. 7 and Deut. 20). However, the nation of Israel (led by Joshua!) will repeatedly show their unfaithfulness to the Law. Nevertheless, the author of Joshua shows that the promised Messiah will, amazingly, come through Rahab the prostitute. Consequently, the Book of Joshua explains Yahweh’s faithfulness to accomplish His promises despite Israel’s own unfaithfulness.
