4. Talk about the “unreasonable equation” in verse 2: Severe suffering + Overflowing Joy + Extreme Poverty = Rich generosity.

5. Have you ever given “as much as you were able, and even beyond your ability?” (v.3) How’d that go?

7. Macedonia inspired Corinth to be generous (v. 8). Who has inspired you and how did they do that? Who are you hoping to inspire?

8. Verse 9 is one of the most pithy and profound descriptions of the Gospel of Jesus – what does it mean and what does it mean to you?

9. If you’re a Christian, turns out your rich! Reflect on your “wealth” and what you will do with all that.

Throughout the book of Romans, Paul explains the truth and power of the gospel message and gives the church the mission to take that message to the world…Read: Romans 1:16-17, Romans 10:13-15, Romans 15:20If you had to evaluate your passion for the mission of taking the gospel to the world, what would you say about yourself? (excited, burdened, indifferent, scared, …) Explain… Where do you see things that you need to grow?

2. If the unity of the people of God is a major theme of seeing the world changed, where do you see the state of the church in the U.S.? What would need to change in the church? How would you think the church should go about growing in unity? What could you do personally?

3. Do you feel comfortable in your faith or challenged in your faith? Why do most people try to gravitate toward being comfortable? What is the cost of being comfortable?

4. Reflect on the life and ministry of Jesus… How did he consistently bring people to a place of challenge in their faith? Why do you think it takes challenge to bring change to people in most cases? How have you experienced challenge in your life bringing growth and change to your faith? How can we consistently bring challenge to our own life and faith?

5. Jesus modeled by becoming a person that bringing the Kingdom to earth is to be done personally and organically and intentionally.

2. Paul says, "Make every effort to do what leads to peace and mutual edification" (Romans 14:19). Who has been someone in your life that consistently built you up in your faith? What did they do that made such an impact?

3. Throughout the sermon we asked the question, "Will this build?" Think about a current relationship, disagreement, or area where you have strong convictions. How might asking that question change the way you respond this week?

4. Paul reminds us that Jesus is still shaping each of us. Is there an area where the Lord has changed or matured one of your convictions over time? How does remembering that help you show humility and patience toward believers who are still growing?

1. Where do you see yourself most tempted to make secondary issues feel like primary issues?(Examples: politics, worship styles, parenting, schooling, spiritual gifts, cultural preferences, personal convictions.)
Follow-up: Why do you think we are so quick to turn differences of conviction into judgments about someone's faith?

2. Romans 14:3 says, “God has accepted them.” How should remembering that God has welcomed someone change the way we approach believers who think differently than we do?
Follow-up: What is the difference between "accepting" someone and simply "agreeing" with someone?

3. Paul says, “Who are you to judge someone else’s servant?” (Romans 14:4). Where are you most tempted to take a role that belongs only to Jesus?
Follow-up: What does it look like practically to trust Jesus as Lord over someone else's spiritual growth instead of trying to control it?

4. Romans 14:8 says, “Whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.” How does belonging to Jesus change the way we hold our convictions, opinions, and freedoms?

Romans 12:9-16
Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.  Do not be conceited.

1. The Mirror Question
When you think about yourself, what voices most influence how you see yourself (success, failure, social media, family expectations, work, appearance, etc.)? How does the gospel challenge or reshape those voices?

2. Sober Judgment
Paul calls us to "think of yourself with sober judgment" (Romans 12:3).Why do you think Paul warns against thinking too highly of ourselves? How can thinking too poorly of ourselves also become a form of self-focus?
Follow-up: Which tendency do you struggle with more—self-exaltation or self-deprecation?

3. Grace and Gifts
Paul emphasized that our gifts are "grace-gifts"—something received, not achieved.How does viewing your abilities, opportunities, and spiritual gifts as gifts of grace change the way you think about yourself and others?
Follow-up: Is there a gift God has given you that you could steward more intentionally for the benefit of others?

4. Belonging to the Body
We concluded with the idea that life in Christ is not about being the center, but about belonging and serving. What does it practically look like for you to move from asking "What about me?" to asking "How can I serve?" in your family, workplace, friendships, or church community this week?
Follow-up: Is there a specific way God may be inviting you to contribute to the life of the body rather than simply consume from it?

1. Where in your spiritual life have you struggled to see the change you have wanted to see? What has made that change difficult for you? What area of your life do you find yourself regularly disobeying God?

Read Romans 12:1-2
2. “Therefore”
What is the “therefore” there for? What is Paul referring back to at the beginning of chapter 12?

3. “In view of God’s mercy”
Why would reflecting on the grace and the mercy of God provide motivation and a catalyst to desire change in your life or obey God? Have you ever obeyed out of fear rather than gratitude? What is the challenge/problem of letting fear be the motivation to surrender your life to God?

4. Take a few minutes to reflect on the cross of Jesus and on how you have seen the grace and mercy of God in your life. Share some of the ways you have seen God’s mercy. Take a few minutes to thank God in prayer for what He has done.

5. What does it mean to “offer your body as a living sacrifice”? What are examples of how you have done this or should be doing this? Are there any areas of your life that you are holding back from God? Explain. What makes these areas of your life difficult to surrender to God?

6. “True and proper” is literally translated “logical” (greek: logicon)
Why is surrender to God the only “logical” response to the good news of the gospel?

7. “Do not conform to the pattern of this world”
What does it mean to conform to the pattern of this world?
What assumptions do I hold that come more from culture than Scripture? How does the world think differently than God in the areas of success, happiness, identity, sexuality, money, or power?

8. Where am I adopting cultural values instead of biblical values? Where do I need to renew my thinking?

9. Why do you think that transformation begins first in the renewing of our mind?

10. What content fills my mind? What voices are the loudest in my mind? Does it move me toward Christ or away from Him? Explain…

11. What practices are helpful to you to renew your mind and have God’s perspective over the perspective of this world? Where do you need to grow in renewing your mind? How will you do this?
