"I didn't feel like someone outside of me had answers. I felt always since I was very young that answers were within. More personal awareness, personal development. What can I do to strengthen my own understanding of myself, my own idiosyncrocies, my personality, how I get along with others... more social psychology. My family was very spiritual. I always joke that my parents are recovering Catholics, so I grew up in a home that was not religious but was very spiritual. And the Native American church - not so much a church as it is a way of spiritual exploration and prayer - that was my foundation. So I had a very clear philosophy around spirituality but had no structure. But there was an awareness that this is really important. My dad would always tell me that it doesn't matter what you find, but your spiritual connection has to be in balance for you to do anything else that you want to do in life."
