I am defeated and I am tired”. These were the words from Angela Pascoe, a social worker that I met virtually a year ago when I started my clubhouse study group in January 2021. She shared her story of being a veteran and a social worker in Florida and how defeated she felt with trying to get her LCSW license. She reported she took license over 5 times already and was ready to just throw in the towel. After hearing her story, Founder Shara Ruffin, LCSW, offered to coach her for the clinical exam. During her study process, Angela experienced many setbacks including dealing with a death in her family; her own anxiety. Angela often during her individual coaching process struggled with self-defeating thoughts because of her passed failed experiences and would often sabatoge her process and have a lack of motivation. Even when she gave up on herself at times by pulling away from sessions, Founder Shara Ruffin, LCSW still called her and texted her constantly because I recognized the fight that she was in … Shara Ruffin, LCSW could see myself in Angela’s fight with herself. Shara pushed harder for her when she lost faith in herself.
