Genesis 6:17-21; 8:1-3

Despite the reason for the flood, God granted Noah grace.

After the flood, Noah’s family began a new beginning.

5 key steps to a new beginning.

Step 1 is to clear out the clutter.

Second step:

Cling to what produces life and sustains life.

Family is important because of its strong connection of kin.

A male and female of each life form needed to continue God’s production of life.

Food is necessary for life, specifically for healthy living. However, there is a more substantive good. God’s word (food) is extremely important for us to live. More importantly, in Gen 6:18, God offered to be Noah’s sustaining force.

For a year, all Noah has entering the Ark is the promise of God’s establishment of a covenant with Noah.

God does not give the particulars about the covenant to Noah until he reaches dry land.

Noah set off on their journey on an “I will” from God.

Whatever God does, whenever He does it, is going to be good.

In Gen 8:1, we are reminded that God kept his covenant with Noah. He simply said, “I remember “.

We are encouraged by knowing that God remembers us.

The Important thing is not that we know what God is going to do, but having faith and knowing that God remembers His covenant with us.

When you feel that God had forgotten us, take comfort in remembering that God remembers his covenant.

Through God’s divine grace, God does not remember our sins.

The most important thing is to be in covenant with God.

Genesis 8: 1-5; 13-17

The flood account, Genesis 6-8

Ark was half as long as a football field and 45 feet high.  Designed for survival, not navigation because God was in charge of navigation.

Noah’s obedience - allowed a fresh start.  First day of the first month.  Signified humanity’s new beginning after disembarking from the ark.

Principles for living for new beginning:

1. Clear out your environment

Genesis 6:17

Clear the clutter -anything in an untidy

state or out of place.  Not useful or necessary. Clutter can be physical stuff, emotional baggage , messy people, toxic relationships, anything holding you back from your future.

Spiritually we must:

1. Clear our hearts

2. Crucify our flesh

Heart and flesh work in tandem with each other.  When the heart is messed up, the  flesh will act up.

Matthew 7:15; 21-23

Examine your heart.

Romans 8:6

Don’t court the flesh; crucify the flesh.

Psalm 26:2

Ask God to examine us, not just examine ourselves.

Topic: The N word in the Bible

Scripture:

Numbers 6:1-8

The N word familiar to most of us is considered vulgar and a put down to others.

Using the N word is devaluing and disrespecting God as he created us all.

There is a positive N word in the Bible. Nazarite.

Nazarite and Nazarene are not the same. Hebrew meaning if of Nazarite is “dedication by separation “. Nazarite mase a vow for worldly separation. The Nazarite consecration was not routine, it contained 5 elements.

The Nazarite agreed to some limiting prohibition.

3 Things were required during their period of separation.

1.Appetite - no grapes or derivatives

2.Appearance -no cutting of hair

3.Association - no contact going near corpses

The 1st and 3rd were of the priest of the services. Refer to Leviticus 21.

The 2nd was a visible sign to the public of the consecration.

What are the implications for today and what is the takeaway?

Consecration conditions is to be able to be where God wants us to be.
