What happens when a childhood dream becomes your life's work?
In this episode of Journeys of Success, host Shri Ananda sits down with longtime friend Matt Brown, Canadian actor, filmmaker, and Co-Founder and Creative Director of Field of Screams, one of the Okanagan's most celebrated Halloween attractions.
From watching Bob Ross and Jim Henson as a child to pursuing acting, theatre, filmmaking, and eventually creating elaborate worlds of horror, Matt has spent his life following one unwavering passion: to be an artist.
But his journey hasn't always been easy.
Matt opens up about the years of being a struggling artist, the determination that kept him moving forward, and why he never allowed financial success to define his worth or his creativity.
He also shares the remarkable story of how Field of Screams began, the terrifying night his business partner Glen Taylor suffered a life-threatening accident, and how that experience helped reshape the future of their creative venture.
Now celebrating 13 years of Field of Screams, Matt reflects on the joy of creating opportunities for fellow artists, the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people, and the incredible team that brings the nightmares to life each year.
In this episode, we explore:
· How childhood imagination can shape a lifetime of creativity
· The journey from struggling artist to creative entrepreneur
· Why passion matters more than a paycheque
· The origins and evolution of Field of Screams
· The night that changed everything for Matt and Glen
· Why failure is an essential part of your character arc
· The power of collaboration, gratitude, and believing in yourself
Whether you're an artist, entrepreneur, dreamer, or someone searching for the courage to follow your own path, Matt's story is a powerful reminder that success isn't simply about what you achieve. It's about who you become along the way.
"Allow yourself to have a character arc." — Matt Brown

What does it take to build one of the Okanagan’s most anticipated Halloween attractions — and what happens when your life changes in a split second?
In this episode of Journeys of Success, Shri Ananda sits down with Glen Taylor, Founder, Co-Owner and Director of Operations of Field of Screams.
What began 13 years ago as an idea to extend the season at O’Keefe Ranch quickly grew from a single corn maze into a massive Halloween experience attracting thousands of guests from across the Okanagan, Vancouver, the Kootenays and even Washington State.
But Glen’s journey took a life-changing turn in 2017.
While preparing Field of Screams the night before opening, Glen was struck by a large tank while operating a tractor. In an instant, he was unable to move from the neck down.
Doctors later told him they didn't believe he would walk again.
Glen had a different answer.
In this deeply personal conversation, Glen shares the story of the accident, the mindset that carried him through rehabilitation, the moment he walked the parallel bars in front of the doctor who thought he never would, and why Field of Screams remains one of the great loves of his life.
We also go behind the scenes of Field of Screams — how it grew from 5,400 guests in its first year to tens of thousands of visitors, the team of more than 100 people who bring it to life, and what the future may hold for the event.

What if failure isn't the opposite of success — but actually part of it?
In Part 2 of our conversation with Allisha Heidt, founder of Chickpeace, we dig deeper into what it really takes to build a business rooted in sustainability, community and purpose.
Allisha shares the journey toward becoming a certified B Corporation — a rigorous process that measures a company's social and environmental impact and requires businesses to continue improving over time.
We also hear the remarkable story of how a product Chickpeace began making in-house during the supply shortages of the pandemic eventually landed in the Jilly Box.
The opportunity sounded incredible.
The challenge? Producing 20,000 jars of Chickpeace's Everything Bagel Topper.
Allisha had never produced anything remotely close to that scale. What followed was five months of problem-solving, temporary warehouse space, pallets, forklifts, community support and one of the biggest stretches of her entrepreneurial career.
We also explore the challenges facing sustainable businesses, greenwashing, practical ways people can reduce waste, the future of Chickpeace, and how Allisha responds when business gets difficult.
And when asked what she would tell someone who has a dream but is afraid to take the leap, her answer gets right to the heart of the Journeys of Success podcast:
The choices that scare you are often the choices that give you the greatest opportunity to grow.
Try. Make mistakes. Fail.
Because sometimes failure is a form of success too.
Join us for Part 2 of our conversation with Allisha Heidt and discover why building something meaningful isn't about avoiding failure — it's about having the courage to keep growing through it.

What if success isn't about making more money — but having more freedom?
In Episode 8 of Journeys of Success, Shri sits down with Allisha Heidt, founder of Chickpeace, a Kelowna refill store built around sustainability, community, and making low-waste living more accessible.
Allisha's journey into entrepreneurship wasn't something she originally planned. After travelling abroad and witnessing the impact of plastic pollution firsthand, she pursued graduate studies in sustainability and eventually found herself building her first business while on maternity leave.
That first experience became what Allisha calls her “Entrepreneurship 101.”
She learned what happens when you try to do everything yourself, how difficult it can be to let go of control, and why building the right team can ultimately determine whether your business gives you freedom — or consumes your life.
Then, in March 2020, she began building Chickpeace.
Just as construction started, the world shut down.
Allisha shares how she navigated the uncertainty of opening a new business during COVID, learned to become more adaptable, built a loyal community around sustainable living, and created a workplace culture centered around trust, communication and “leading with love.”
Perhaps most importantly, Allisha shares her own definition of success:
Time freedom.
The ability to travel with her family, pick up her children from school, choose how she spends her days, and trust that the business can continue without her being involved in every decision.
In this conversation, we explore entrepreneurship, sustainability, delegation, leadership, community, yoga, mentorship and what it means to build a successful business without losing sight of the life you wanted to create in the first place.

Mohini Singh's journey is a powerful reminder that success is about far more than titles and accomplishments.
After immigrating to Canada from India in the 1980s, Mohini struggled to find work, adapted to a completely new culture, and eventually built an award-winning career in journalism. What began as a passion for storytelling and helping others ultimately led her into public service, where she became the first person of color elected to Kelowna City Council.
Now serving her fourth term, Mohini reflects on leadership, community, diversity, values-based decision making, and what it truly means to create positive change.
In this conversation, we explore: • Moving to Canada and starting over • Overcoming early setbacks and uncertainty • Following your own path instead of others' expectations • Journalism as a vehicle for service • Representation, diversity, and belonging • Leadership and public service • Building stronger communities • Defining success through character and contribution
Mohini's story is ultimately one of courage, resilience, service, and the belief that real success is measured not by status, but by the impact we have on others.
