Top story: Former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu, Ras Mubarak says the resignation of North-Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa from the Appointments Committee of Parliament, is a vote-of-no-confidence in the leadership of Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu. In a letter dated March 30, addressed to the Speaker, Alban Kingsford Bagbin, Mr. Ablakwah explained that his decision to resign was “after days of careful reflection and thoughtful considerations’’.

Top story: The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) is set to begin a nationwide stakeholder’s consultation on the proposed tariff review for both water and electricity. This follows a successful preliminary meeting held with the utility companies. Under the tariff setting guideline spelt out in the law setting up the PURC, the utility companies must submit their new tariff proposal 60 days before the effective date of the tariff.

Top story: Parliament has approved the nomination of Ken Ofori-Atta as minister responsible for Finance in the Akufo-Addo led administration. His approval comes after the Appointments Committee by consensus recommended his approval to the House. Meanwhile, several MPs from the Minority side raised reservations over the responses of the Minister when he appeared before the vetting committee. The minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu described the Minister as having performed unsatisfactorily when he appeared before them.

Top story: President Akufo-Addo has reversed his earlier decision to cap the budgetary allocation for Parliament and the Judiciary after Speaker Alban Bagbin opposed the Executive’s decision. Speaking in Parliament, Mr Bagbin, who described the move as “worthy of commendation” revealed that government had approved the budget estimated of approximately GH¢523 million, a reduction from the initial proposed amount of GH¢583 million.
