Good day ladies and gentlemen, this is IRC news, I am Joy Stephen, a certified Canadian Immigration practitioner, and I bring to you this Provincial News Bulletin from the province of Alberta. This recording originates from the Polinsys studios in Cambridge, Ontario.
More than ever, drivers are needed in the commercial transportation sector to help get Alberta products to market and ensure communities have access to essential goods and services. In Alberta, women represent only 2.9 per cent of commercial truckers, below the national rate of four per cent. There are approximately 4,260 transport truck driver job vacancies in the province.
To help address these labour shortages in the commercial trucking industry, in 2022-23 Alberta's government committed $40 million over four years to provide commercial driver training grants to unemployed and underemployed Albertans. This $2.8-million funding commitment over two years will help Women Building Futures provide programming that teaches skills, builds confidence and connects graduates to good jobs as drivers with companies that are committed to creating safe and inclusive workplaces.
This news indicates possibility of opportunities for Internationally trained Drivers.

Good day ladies and gentlemen, this is IRC news, I am Joy Stephen, a certified Canadian Immigration practitioner, and I bring to you this Federal News Bulletin from CIC news release. This recording originates from the Polinsys studios in Cambridge, Ontario.
Immigration is critical to Canada's long-term success. Newcomers and visitors fuel our economy and add vibrancy to our communities. As we continue to receive high volumes of visa applications from around the world, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is committed to improving processing efficiency and client service. This includes expanding our international presence when needed.
The Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced today the opening of a new Canada visa application centre (VAC) in Lisbon, Portugal, on February 26, 2024. With this new centre, IRCC's VAC network will consist of 163 locations in 110 countries around the world.
The people-to-people ties between Canada and Portugal have grown stronger over time and, today these ties are underpinned by a vibrant Canadian community of Portuguese origin. That is why IRCC remains committed to making it easier than ever for Portuguese citizens to travel to Canada. The opening of a new visa application centre in Lisbon will offer them greater flexibility and accessibility to visit, study or work in Canada, and open the door to new opportunities for social, economic and cultural exchange that will benefit both countries.

Alberta began 2024 showing its economic strength by putting more Albertans to work. A strong increase of 23,800 full-time jobs in January builds on the growth we saw last year.
"Alberta's economy is expected to remain one of the strongest in Canada in 2024, and jobs are a critical part of this. This is all thanks to the Alberta Advantage. Our competitive tax rate, highly skilled workforce, abundant natural resources and world-class education system mean we will continue to be the economic engine of Canada.
"The advantages Alberta have here are noticed across the country and around the world. Domestic and global companies continue to see promise in Alberta, with 322 major projects under construction as of Dec. 31 totalling approximately $82.7 billion in investment. The hard-working Albertans helping to get these projects off the ground are also making an average of $1,301 per week. This is more than their counterparts in any other province and well above the national average, which translates to more money in the pockets of Alberta workers.
