Katie’s very special guest in the second hour today is the legendary grande dame of Australian folk music and true queer icon, Judy Small. The chat covers Judy’s start in the 1970s as part of the emerging gay pride movement (she is a 78er) and second-wave feminism, singing about ‘lesbian chic’ in the 1990s, the sad fact that some of her political songs are still relevant today, why she left performing around 2000 and what she did in the interim, and her recent return to the stage. Here is the playlist:
* When You’re Wrong – Brandi Carlile
* Ode to a Gym Teacher – Meg Christian
* Annie – Judy Small
* Hallelujah – k.d. lang
* You Don’t Speak for Me – Judy Small
* Turn Right, Go Straight – Jez Lowe & The Bad Pennies
