The two talk about how the dental profession is still very male-centric but is now slowly changing to be more diverse. They explain the importance of authenticity and “DeW-ing you,” which Dr. Bergeron expresses by keeping her office painted a joyous bright pink color.

In this episode of the Just DeW It podcast, Anne Duffy is joined by DeW-de (dude) James Younger, DDS. Dr. Younger is the founder and CEO of TempStars, a dental temping and hiring agency.

Dr. Younger explains how entrepreneurial women in particular inspired him to start TempStars. He describes teaching himself everything he needed to know to develop an app and using that knowledge to properly communicate what he wanted to accomplish with more experienced app developers.

Dr. Younger and Anne talk about their shared drive to make the dental community a better place, and the similarities between DeW Life and TempStars. Dr. Younger explains his mission to de-stigmatize the term “temp” and shares his thoughts on the benefits of temping such as having a more flexible schedule and experiencing a dental office’s work environment before accepting a position there.

In this episode of the Just DeW It podcast, Anne Duffy is joined by her long-time friend Debora Carrier, RDH. Debora is the CEO of Twice as Nice Uniforms, a uniform company for dental professionals, designed by a dental professional. Debora talks about how she came up with the concept for Twice as Nice Uniforms, when she decided that she needed a temperature-controlled uniform after realizing how much time she’d spent one day fighting for her preferred temperature on the thermostat. She discusses the importance of having a dentistry-focused uniform company because a majority of scrubs and lab coats are designed for medical practitioners.

Debora explains her goal of creating high-quality uniforms that are affordable and fit nicely on all body types. Debora explains how she is collaborating with other speakers to provide information and entertainment by having fashion shows during presentations, in which she discusses educational topics such as in-office PPE regulations. Debora and Anne recall the fashion show that Debora put on for the 2021 DeW Retreat, and discuss the upcoming fashion show at the 2022 DeW Retreat.

Dr. Robinson explains her journey in dentistry, starting as a hygienist and eventually growing into a dentist. She describes the collaboration that is required for the annual Hinman conference to go smoothly, and describes that her colleagues are like family who all contribute to the labor of love. She also details the family-like relationship she has with her dental patients, and how she learns from them.

Dr. Robinson and Anne recall the champagne toast that started DeW back in Hinman 2017, and the wonderful time they’ve had knowing each other over the years. They discuss the rise in popularity of oral systemic health, and how excited they are for more dental and medical professionals to join the movement.

Mary Fisher-Day shows admirable vulnerability, talking about the breast implant surgery that caused her years of unexplainable health issues. She explains how the symptoms she experienced took a toll on her relationships and wellbeing, as well as the struggle of going to doctors about the issues, only for them to tell her that nothing was wrong. Now after having explant surgery, Mary emphasizes the fact that she feels like she has her life back, and how she now chooses to advocate for other women who may be experiencing these symptoms and illnesses.
