Episode 24! BAD MOON (1996) Movie Review! Directed by Eric Red; Written by E.R. And Wayne Smith.

I wanted to find a pre-2000, lesser known werewolf film to review. Bad Moon stars Mariel Hemingway, Michael Pare and Mason Gamble (Dennis the Menace). Pretty straight forward werewolf flick that doesn’t spend too much time on lore, or background. I like that I didn’t have to wait the whole movie to see the monster and the werewolf was pretty cool FX for the time, the CGI is awful, but that’s subjective. I liked the characters and the 90’s feel to the film. It wasn’t great but it wasn’t bad either. The ending was good, and it felt more like a goosebumps episode than a movie. Great cast too.

Book Review! WIND-UP TOY AND OTHER STORIES. By David Owain Hughes!

To be honest, I have never read anything like this. Typically I don’t reach for the splatterpunk style hyper violence style storytelling. Just not my thing. But if an honest review is what you want, then I must say, objectively, David Hughes can write. His prose are so smooth and clean. Effortless reading. I never once got confused about any of the who, whats, whens, or where’s while reading. So, Hughes uses this polished penmanship to write scenes of outlandish and horrific violence, brutal murders, sexial degeneracy, and all the things that make you uncomfortable. If this is your genre, then Hughes is your writer. The story was good and used a cool technique of showing the same scenes from different perspectives of people that were there. Each scene is almost a challenge to be outdone by the next in content and shock value. This book took me out of my comfort zone and I enjoyed the ride. Still not my genre of choice, but I would love to read something from Hughes that is based in another sub-genre.

Episode 23! LAST SHIFT (2014) Movie Review! Directed by Anthony DiBlasi; Writen by A.D. and Scott Poiley.

This 2014 film about cops, cults, demons, and more was able to do a lot with a little. With limited effects, cast, and budget, the director was still able to create a slow build of dread and fear in a way that was effective and unsettling.

Episode 22! MAGIC (1978) Movie Review! Directed by Richard Attenborough; Writen by William Goldman.

This 1978 Psychological thriller stars a very young Anthony Hopkins, and the ageless Burgess Meridith. This movie channels the psychosis of the 1960 film Psycho and sets a blueprint for many films after. Anthony Hopkins does a lot of the heavy lifting in this film and portrays the damaged character of CORKY, and his ventriloquist doll FATS, beautifully. Although he had been in many films since the 60’s, most horror fans will recognize this performance as one of his first. The irony of him needing a psychiatrist in this film and being a psychiatrist in his other notable horror role is a fun switch up. Let’s talk about MAGIC!

Body Farm, a joint feature-length movie production between KVT Productions and Nickel 17 Films, follows an independent film company that sends a videographer ahead of a story to investigate a body farm where human decomposition is researched. The footage she sends back leads the rest of her team to follow her footsteps to uncover a grisly medical abyss.

Principal photography for the movie began in Spring 2015 when a group of Pittsburgh-area filmmakers came together under the joint direction of Nicholas LaMantia and Brandon Keenan. Working from a script by Mr. Keenan, the production team, which ranged in size from five crew members to forty-five members, shot one or two days per month over the next two years to make Body Farm a reality.

With a budget of around $35,000 and completely self-funded, the cast and crew shot all around the Pittsburgh-area, at the West Virginia State Penitentiary, through the mountains of North Carolina, and in New York City. Body Farm's cast was filled out mostly by Pittsburgh-area actors aside from a cameo from Richard Christy (Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2, The Howard Stern Show
