There is one differentiator that separates the major players from everyone else. That difference is focus. People tell me all the time that they can't focus; that they don't have focus. I say that's absolutely untrue. We all have focus. It's just what we focus on that’s the problem? The reality is most of us, me included, at times major in minor things. We spend our focus on stuff that ultimately is inconsequential. And that's the separation. It's all about being truly successful in whatever it is you want. It's all about being able to stay focused on what's important. I will give you the steps for focus, so press that play button.
In this episode, I want to talk to you about managing. I’ve heard so many horror stories about managers, bosses, and owners. And they have one common thread. It’s what you pay attention to. You can either catch people doing things wrong, or you can catch people doing things right. I need to tell you that it’s normal for the brain to look for things that are a danger, things that are wrong. That is how our brains are naturally wired. It's easy to find things wrong. It's the way we're wired socially. Think about it. Every commercial you ever see basically says you’re not good enough unless you have our product. They imply that you have an issue and it's your fault until you get our product. But you can overcome that. Keep listening for tips to shift your focus.
In this episode, I will talk about how shop owners are hurting their teams. I have Brandon sitting beside me for a very specific reason. I will ask Brandon a question really quick. “Brandon, if you come to me with a question and I give you the answer, what did you learn?” Brandon replies, “Nothing.” Here's what Brandon learned. He learned to come to me again for the next question. So, what’s the big deal? Hmm think about that and then press play to see how you could be hurting your team by just giving them answers to their questions.
In this episode, I’ll talk about three things. Well, it’s actually four ways you can run your business. At first, I thought there were three ways, but this morning when I was thinking about it I thought of one more. Press play and hear me out on these four ways!
Today’s topic is Defining. I am on a mission to eliminate or eradicate with prejudice, SSDD. I think you know what I mean. It’s Same Stuff Different Day. I see too many shops going into work every day doing the same thing. Like it's another day dealing with a client. It's another brake job. It's another oil service. I want you to get that out of your shop. How are we going to do that? If you're ready to eliminate SSDD then this podcast is for you! So press that play button and listen along.
I want to ask a question. When did life stop being an adventure? When was life all about playing it safe? I listen to shop owners talk all the time about wanting to grow their business, and then they continually play it safe. Playing it safe is one of the most dangerous things you can do in your business. I truly believe that each and every one of us, me included, are here to do amazing things. I figured out there are three things that are preventing you and I, at different times, from recognizing and creating and becoming the person that we're supposed to become. Press play and hear me out on those three things and maybe that will help you be ready for your next adventure!
Today I want to talk about winners and the two mindsets that winners have that nobody else does. Do you have any idea what two mindsets I'm going to discuss? Listen along to see if they are what you think they are!
One of the biggest issues I see in communication is what I call a translation issue. You know what I'm talking about? Have you ever been with someone who is speaking only French, and you only speak English? That's a translation issue. They're talking perfect. You're listening perfect. But you don't understand each other because there's no common ground. That's what happens a lot of times when you're working with someone and showing them something new. I want you to visualize a curtain and this curtain separates people who have never done what you're talking about and people who have. Ok, do you have that in your mind? Yes? Ok, keep listening to see where I'm going with this.
The reality is we all have challenges. The problem is too many of us try to avoid them. And that's a mistake. I want you to stop avoiding the challenges. That's where growth comes from. Your challenges are what caused you to grow. Yes, they can hurt. Yes, they're uncomfortable. But you will end up being so much better on the other side. Where do your challenges come from? Keep listening along to hear some tips I want you to think about when you get a challenge.
Today I’ll talk about SMD. I will explain that in just a moment. I want you to realize two things today and I want you to bring this not only into this coming week. I want you to bring this to your team as well, because a lot of us are really having problems with this. You are probably asking yourself what is SMD?? This is a good one for sure to listen to because we all find ourselves in this situation from time to time. So go ahead and press play!
