Triple negative IDC, 2009, age 44

Found out in 2019 I was BRCA2 positive so had preventive surgery last year all is well.

Hobbies reading, weightlifting, hanging with my dog,Dragon Boat paddling, travel. 

Bio. Have been a teacher for 25 years, the last 21 at Winter Park High School where I currently teach us government . I really enjoy what I do, but am looking forward to someday being able to retire! I grew up mostly in the Orlando area, but spent high school and college years in the Atlanta area

My guest was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012, IDC, stage 2B, HER2+Jan became an “accidental” breast cancer advocate. She had ten girlfriends who had breast cancer before her, and she created a secret Facebook group where she could get her questions answered by them. But those girlfriends ended up inviting newly diagnosed girls to the group, and the rest is history! The Booby Buddies has served more than 2,000 women with breast cancer over the years. And that was just the beginning. Jan also created two other private Facebook groups: The Living Room which is a safe place for stage 4 women to share and get encouragement, and Sex After Breast Cancer where women can safely discuss and find answers about the issues that affect their intimate lives after breast cancer. Jan also founded Provision Project, a non-profit that provides financial relief to women in active treatment for breast cancer in 2015. And this year, Jan has launched her newest project, Hope After Breast Cancer, a place where women who have experienced breast cancer can be encouraged and empowered to reclaim their lives and THRIVE!

My  Guest is a Miami native for 17 years .  She is a Certified Meeting Professional through the Events Industry Council. She has 25+years of experience in corporate meetings and event planning primarily for Franchisors and the Food & Beverage industry. She also has an Industrial engineering degree, from the Georgia Institute of Technology and A Master Certificate in Hospitality Management from Cornell University, at age 48 she was diagnosed with HER 2 Positive Breast Cancer.

She has Traveled to over 49 different countries on six continents and counting!       She has learned to live by 2 mottos:  Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, It’s about dancing in the rain.  And ¨ You can do anything you put your mind to if you take one step at a time and let other people help you.           

Her favorite saying is “When you come to a fork in the road, take it” Yogi Berra

She was diagnosed in 2012 as Hormone Receptive positive Breast Cancer

Her Formal education is in interior design! 

Her background hospitality and design, she is a jack of all trades, waitress, bartender, designer. She currently is a visual merchandiser with IKEA.  

Grew up in a large family,  her Mom had 9 siblings, she had 4, and sadly lost a brother to cancer in 2012.  She is Very close with her two sisters and brother. She is a Daughter, Sister, Godmother, Aunt, and Friend, she cherishes all those titles.

My guest today is a native New Yorker and grew up in the Bronx and Manhattan. She is a graduate from Hunters College, with a master’s degree in in Urban Planning. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners, as well as a certified Transportation planner. She also holds a Florida Real Estate License. She was diagnosed with HER 2 Positive Stage 2A, ER Positive and PR Positive Ductal Breast Cancer. She also has a grown son living in New York.

My guest today is a graduate from FSU with a degree in psychology. She was diagnosed with HR Positive Invasive Breast Cancer, Stage 2. at age 52. She will be married 30 years and has 2 grown children. She loves dogs.
