At nearly every home game for the Washington Capitals (depending on the score) the jumbotron focus on a seemingly random individual in the lower deck. This person then stands up and leads the nearly 19,000 Caps fans in a simple yet effective "Let's Go Caps" chant. It took me a few home games before I realized this guy was a virtual institution within the fanbase. This man, William Stilwell or the Loud Goat as he is known to the Capitals faithful joins me for Episode 92 of Just Talking. We discuss the origins of his nickname, the exact moment Washington D.C. became a hockey town, and what it is like to command an entire arena of fans for 30 seconds.
We're hardcore hockey in this episode, but there's something in this episode for everybody. Enjoy.

It's not every day you have an olympic athlete on your podcast. Well, it's not every day unless you work at ESPN or some fine institution like that. Anyway, Cross-Country Skier Kris Freeman is my guest for Episode 91. Kris was a member of the Olympic Team in 2002, 2006 and 2010 so naturally we spend some time talking about the Olypmics of the past and the upcoming games in Russia. Our discussion also covers his diagnosis of type 1 diabetes, its impact on his skiing, his experiences as a diabetes advocate and as the title suggests, how he manages to Stay Zen before, during and after his competitions.
Obviously, the real noise around Kris and his teammates is a few years away but you can keep up with Kris as he build momentum to the Winter Games on his blog at FasterSkier.com. Enjoy.

Closing in on one hundred, my guest this week is Andy Gray from Sports Illustrated. Andy runs the Sports Illustrated Vault which features images and articles collected by the magazine since the beginning of time (or at least the beginning of the Magazine in 1954). We spend the podcast talking about Andy's college and career path that led him to Sports Illustrated, the value of a picture in a digital world and life as a Boston fan living in New York City.
There's plenty to get to this week and I think you're all going to love this conversation. Enjoy.

My first rule of podcasting is "have fun". Otherwise the time and money invested in this activity is not worth what you get in return. My second rule is be consistent. Building an audience requires trust, mostly on your part. If you say your podcast goes up every Tuesday night, then something better be posted every Tuesday night.
Which brings me to Episode 89. I had a few ideas for a podcast while I was out in San Diego but none of them materialized. So you get 15 minutes of my talking to myself about Scientific Sessions, the diabetes online community, and lots and lots of walking. Enjoy.

I do my fair share of talking about social media with my guests, especially when personal or professional interest in the topic. Episode 88 is no different as Cory Hartlen, a Product Marketing Manager for Radian6. What is Radian6? Why should you care about it and how companies are utilizing it's tools? How awesome is a genuine Canadian accent? What is the future of social media? And what was up with those riots after the Stanely Cup finals? We answer those questions and more over the next hour. Trust me, you don't want to miss this one. Enjoy.
Keep up with Cory personally on Twitter @CoryHartlen and professionally @Radian6 and [email protected].

Last week my guest introduced his cat to the podcast. This week I'm joined by jounalist, diabetes blogger and cool guy Mike Hoskins (and his dog for a moment). We spend the podcast discussing his diagnosis and being raised by a parent with type 1 diabetes. There's also plenty of talk of his entry and career path through the field of journalism. If you listen carefully there's also some hints to an on again, off again book he is writing. We finish the conversation with Zombies, Nintendo and puppies. Because that's normal for a podcast.
Keep up with Mike on his blog at The Diabetic's Corner Booth and on Twitter @MHoskins2179. Enjoy.

Here we are with Episode 86 of Just Talking. Tonight's guest is Scott Strange. Scott was diagnosed with diabetes in 1970 but his story with the online community is only a few years old. We touch on his diagnosis, the years (decades even) of depression before finding the online community and the world of change he has seen and impacted since finding tudiabetes.com. There's also a guest apperance by a cat. Twice. And a mention of a special opportunity for aspiring diabetes bloggers that have yet to take the pluge.
The conversation gets pretty real in this one, but I think you'll find it both rewarding and uplifting. Keep up with Scott on his blog at - http://strangelydiabetic.com and follow him on Twitter @Strangely_T1.
Enjoy.

His resume also includes lots of notables at CNET, mostly on the podcasting front. Can you see where this is going? We spend the hour talking about his journey through CNET to TWiT, the wonderful world of podcasting, varying MP3 bitrates and much more. Enjoy.

Presenting Episode 84 with my guest Victoria Cumbow. Victoria writes for the Huntsville Times - so we spent part of the show talking about journalism in theory and in practice. She has type 1 diabetes - so we spent some time talking about her diagnosis, being single with diabetes and the diabetes online community. She is also a graduate from Auburn University - which means we're talking about "War Eagle" and college towns.
Additionally, she was on the front lines reporting and assiting with relief efforts in the wake of the devastating tornados that hit the Northern Alabama area a few weeks go. Our conversation around this topic revolved around social media's ability to assist in a time where communication was key, not just for people in the area but for people across the country. It's a conversation you don't want to miss.
Keep up with Victoria on her blog - http://victoriacumbow.com, follow her on Twitter @victoriacumbow and keep an eye on her Facebook page too.
Enjoy.
