We hear a ton of talk these days about the power of authenticity. It's a good thing too because it's true. You've got to infuse everything you do with the real you, including your marketing. On this episode of the podcast, Dean and I are talking with Dave Lindenbaum - a guy who does everything in his marketing and kombucha business with absolute authenticity. All you have to do is look at his websites to see that he pulls it off every time.
You'll never know what you're capable of if you don't step out and try. Many people who get into the entrepreneurial space understand that they've got to market in order to make their business succeed. But what many of them shy away from is putting their own face on camera or becoming the personality of their brand. Today's guest, Dave Lindenbaum tells us how important it is to be the real you when you market your products or services. Whether you get on camera or not your personality and uniqueness need to come across in order to build the trust that motivates purchases. Dave is one of those guys who has stumbled upon something great here, so make sure you listen to hear his advice.
The thing you're dreaming to do may not be THE thing you wind up doing.Almost every entrepreneur starts out with a dream for what it is he or she wants to do. But Dave Lindenbaum says that most of the time the thing you're dreaming to do does not wind up being THE thing you do. That's because discovering your true purpose or the thing you were meant to do requires trial and error. You've got to try something to see if it works, then pivot if it doesn't. It's that process, sometimes done over and over that takes you to the place where you love the thing that you do. Dave's story is a great example of that and you'll get to hear it, albeit in a somewhat convoluted way, on this episode.
Nobody can be you except you, so do it like only you can do it.It doesn't work to be a copycat marketer or a "me too" kind of company. You've got to be unique. You've got to be you. On this episode of Just The Tips our guest, Dave Lindenbaum tells us his story - how he went from working in corporate in New York City to establishing his own brands and services on the West Coast. He's an example of what you have to do sometimes, learn how to speak in your own unique voice and offer something to the world that only you can offer. Dave's advice is that you have to get started if you want to discover what it is you are supposed to do.
The lifestyle freedom you want as an entrepreneur begins with freedom in your mind. Most of us who get into the entrepreneurial lifestyle do so because we want a greater amount of freedom in our lives. We don't want a boss telling us what we have to do. We don't want someone telling us when we have to be at work and when we can take off. We want to make those decisions for ourselves. But Dave Lindenbaum makes the point in this conversation that before you can experience that kind of freedom in the work you do, you have to first experience it in your mind. It's a dream, and a decision you make to pursue that dream that gives you the drive to keep going when things get tough. Dave has lots of great advice to share so be sure you listen to this conversation.

You are seriously not going to believe what Dana Derricks is doing to the publishing industry. Dana is a skilled copywriter but that's not what makes his current project so amazing. Think about this: There are books we've all read that have changed our lives for the better. What was that change worth to you? This much is for sure, you didn't pay what the book was worth in that case, did you? Dana says it's time for all of that to change - and he is proving it is possible by selling his own books as high ticket items. You won't believe it's really possible, but it is.
How much value does a reader need to get from your book to make the purchase price worth it?What if I told you that I was selling a book for $300? You'd probably immediately think I was crazy and that it has to be a scam of some kind. But you only need to learn something from my book that could earn you $300 or more in order to make that purchase worthwhile, right? That's the point Dana Derricks makes on this episode. His high ticket books are selling, and for amounts much higher than the example I just gave you. You've got to hear the way he explains it because it makes total sense and it puts the power that comes from the transmission of valuable information back into the hands of authors. Derek is onto something, so make sure you listen.
What kinds of books does Dana Derricks sell for $1000 each? One of the things Dean and I were most curious about in this conversation was the type of books that Dana is selling for such a high price. Are they nonfiction? Are they fiction? Is there any reason one would be better than another? Dana says it all depends on the value that is contained in the book. People pay thousands of dollars for online courses all the time. Why is a book any different? It can contain the same amount and depth of information and even serve as a greater resource because it's so easily accessible. Find out how Dana is changing the way people look at the value of books, on this episode.
Why do we agree that books should only cost $15? It's crazy. When you read a book that truly changes your life, there is no price you can put on that sort of transformation. Yet, we are willing to agree that the book itself should only cost $15 or maybe a little bit more. Why do we do that? The value contained between the covers of a book is much higher than that. That's the case Dana Derricks makes on this episode of Just The Tips, and he's not shy about it. He's been charging incredibly high prices for his most recent three books and is selling them like hotcakes. On this episode, he shares his marketing strategy and the type of sales funnel he has devised to create an even more lucrative profit than the initial sale, so be sure you give him a chance to prove to you that this approach works.
The value of anything is in the eye of the one who needs it. Even books.Imagine that the only thing that could cure your deadly disease was a spoonful of sugar. And imagine that I was the only person in the world who had it. What would that spoonful of sugar be worth to you? You'd give anything for it because it is the one thing that can sustain your life. Now let's think about a true-to-life situation. What if a particular book has the answer you need to move your business from $5,000 in profit per month to $20,000 in profit per month? How much would that book be worth to you? How much would you be willing to pay for that information? There's no question, you would pay more than $15, which is the average price of a book these days. Find out why Dana Derricks is turning the publishing world on its head with the way he is pricing his books, on this episode.

Hey there, James P. Friel again and I'm so thankful you've joined Dean and me for another episode of Just The Tips. This one is pretty special because it features our crazy friend, the Queen of Kapow, Liz Benny. I really wanted to bring Liz on the show because her story is one that is truly inspirational. I know you hear that a lot these days, but success stories don't any better than this. Liz was as down as down and out gets. All kinds of trouble was going on in her life - and then - she decided to change it. And change it she did. You've got to hear Liz's story. If she can do what she did, you can do what you need to do. I'm sure of it.
Working her way toward success in a moldy, cold apartment over 12 months' time. When things are bad you only have two options. You can resign yourself to it and sulk and moan. Or you can do something about it. Liz Benny decided she'd do something about it simply because she knew that if she didn't her life would continue to follow the negative, incredibly painful path it was already taking. Liz tells her story on this episode of Just The Tips and you need to check your pulse if you listen and are not moved to go out and change your world.
The power of envisioning your future to be terrible - unless you take action. One of my goals for the Just The Tips podcast is to give you, the listener, practical and powerful tips taken directly from the stories of our incredible guests. When I asked Liz Benny what it was that enabled her to make such a tremendous change in her life in only 12 months she said that some people are motivated by the carrot, while others are motivated by the stick. She is a stick person. She needed a very negative consequence to keep her going. What motivated her was to envision what her life would be like in 12 months if she did not make changes. That terrible future reality is what motivated her to do whatever it took to make her life different. What she was able to accomplish is truly impressive and Dean and I want you to hear Liz's story on this episode.
How Liz Benny became the Queen of Kapow. And what the heck does it mean, anyway? One of the funny things Liz has become known for is that she is the Queen of Kapow! It was in one of her very first online videos that she used the word "kapow" and from that moment on it has stuck with her. The word has become so associated with her that her followers often take pictures of themselves with the word "kapow" and send it to her as an encouragement. What does she mean when she says it? That's a great question and one that we wanted answered on this episode of Just The Tips. Liz has a pretty special definition of the word and you'll be very intrigued by how she explains it.
Life as a course creator is a living hell if you don't do it right. One of the things Liz created that caused her business to explode once she was initially successful is an online course that teaches others how to build their own online course. Her course is unique in that it teaches you exactly what to do, step by step. Think of it as digital hand-holding as you work your way through the process of putting together their own video course. But Liz stresses that if you don't set your course up properly it will drive you crazy. She doesn't want that for you and neither do we, so please, whatever you have to do, listen to this episode to learn how you can do it the right way.

Lead conversion. It's the lifeblood of any business because success isn't possible if you can't make clients or customers out of those who express interest in your product or service. There are many ways you can go about lead conversion, but one of the best is webinars. On this episode of Just The Tips, Dean and I chat with a guy we're super impressed with, Joel Erway. Joel is the founder of The Webinar Agency and has perfected his own recipe for successfully converting leads into customers using webinars. On this episode you're going to hear Joel describe his journey from broke to boom through the use of webinars and how he has leveraged that expertise to help businesses of all types use webinars to increase profits.
From broke to business success all on account of webinars. Joel Erway's story.Joel Erway already had a sales background when he was first introduced to the online space. He invested the money to go through one of the top masterminds available - Russell Brunson's $10K program - and left the program telling Russell he didn't know what he was talking about. Fast forward a few years: Joel came back to Russell with his tail between his legs and an eagerness to learn what he needed to know in order to make himself successful in online business. It was during that season he learned about webinars, got his hands dirty building them, and saw immediate success. Joe's story is fascinating so I hope you take the time to hear him tell it.
Do you know what a "lead in" offer is? More importantly, do you know how to use it effectively? It's very unlikely that anyone can put together a webinar and simply blast it out over social media to great success. You have to understand where your prospects are at in the buying cycle as well as where the market, in general, is at in relation to your product or service. That's how you develop the ideal "lead in" to get people interested. If you skip this step you'll be putting on your webinars to the sound of crickets and your bottom line will suffer. In this conversation Dean and I chat with Joel Erway about lead ins for a significant part of the conversation. In his mind, it's the vital thing you have to nail in order to make your webinar profitable. Listen and learn, my friends. Joel is the man when it comes to webinars.
Will webinars work for your business? As we talked about the power of webinars on this episode, Dean asked Joel what he would say to a person who believes that webinars won't work for their particular business. Joel laughed and said that people who say that are usually the same people who say the internet is dead or that email marketing doesn't work anymore. His point is that webinars are a proven, effective tool for lead capture and conversion. The principles that make webinars work for one type of business can be applied to any business, large or small - ecommerce or service-based. Find out why Joel is so confident that every business should be using webinars, on this episode.
Can a webinar be used to sell this makeup brush kit? Joel Erway weighs in.Dean is in the middle of developing and launching a new product bundle - a makeup brush kit - by means of a webinar. His approach is to create an educational webinar that teaches women how to use all 10 of the brushes provided in the kit he's selling. He believes that great instructional material coupled with a great product offering should result in big sales. On this episode, Dean asks Joel Erway to weigh in on his approach and Joel has some specific things to say about how the campaign could work. This is as practical as it gets, so be sure you listen.

Hey, James P. Friel here. Alison Prince has two words for you: Trending products. You don't need to have a shark tank-worthy product idea to be successful online. Don't believe her? Listen to this episode and she'll prove it to you. Alison runs 7 (SEVEN) businesses of her own - but that's not the really big deal. Her daughters, 10 and 13 years of age at the time they started selling products online, discovered that scarves were a trending product, created their own designs, and started selling them. Within 9 months they'd sold $100,029 worth of scarves. SCARVES people! Now Alison teaches others how she helped her daughters set up this simple way of discovering, sourcing, and selling trending products to generate online income. She's the man, er… WOMAN! Find out more on this inaugural episode of Just The Tips.
You DON'T have to have a shark-tank-worthy idea to build a business. If you happen to have a product idea that is worthy of being featured on Shark Tank, then go for it. But you don't have to have earth-shaking product ideas in order to build a successful online business. That's because people don't ONLY buy the newest, biggest, fanciest products. They also repeatedly buy products that are popular or "in," and they do it every - single - day. Alison Prince calls these "trending products" and discovered how to identify them, source them to sell to others, and market them online. Now she teaches others to do the same. In this episode, you'll hear how her daughters did it, how her sister is doing it, and how she's helped many, many others learn to do the same thing.
Anyone can jump on the trending product bandwagon. There are so many reasons to consider building an online business, and many people SAY they want to do it, but they allow there to be too many obstacles in their way: Limiting beliefs, lack of confidence, or plain old ignorance about how to get started. Alison Prince believes there's no reason the average person should allow those things to stand in their way. Selling trending products successfully is not that hard, technology opens the door to do it, and the "how" is easy to obtain. That's why Alison has committed herself to helping YOU get started. If you want to learn how you've got to listen to this episode.
The benefits of building your online business are HUGE for your family. When we recorded this episode our guest was not in her typical home office. She was in a jungle. In Thailand. We could actually hear the frogs and lizards chirping away in the background. Alison Prince and her family traveled to Thailand to do a couple of things: #1 - they wanted to explore the world and have experiences that were outside their typical American lives. But #2, Alison and her husband thought it would be a great thing for their kids - a way for them to see that there are many different people and many different ways of living. To give them perspective. It's one of the many benefits they've experienced from building online businesses that goes beyond the simplicity of making money - it's the long-term benefits of what the money enables them to do that matters. Find out more of Alison's story and how she's making it happen for other people, too, on this episode of Just The Tips.
A real-life education that doesn't require loads of student loan debt.Toward the end of our conversation, Alison Prince and I got sidetracked - not really a sidetrack - onto the topic of modern education. College is OK. It's entirely necessary for some professions. But many people spend all that money, or worse yet, borrow it, and never wind up using the education they paid so much to get. Alison still thinks her kids may go to college someday, but she's torn, especially because of the success her daughters have already had selling trending products online. They are already learning how to be successful in business and earn their own, independent income without "higher education." You can hear our thoughts about the issue and find out how Alison can help you build your own revenue stream from selling products online, on this episode.
