Juvenalia

Simon O'Connor of the Museum Of Literature Ireland joins us to talk about Twin Peaks. Simon and Sarah were both teenage Twin Peaks obsessives and they let it all out in this episode. We talked about the original series, Fire Walk With Me, season three, and just as many things in and around Twin Peaks and David Lynch as we could fit into the time we had.

You can find the Nicholas Jaar mix that Alan mentioned which starts with Angelo Badalamenti talking about writing Laura's Theme here.

Simon is the director of MoLI. Their online shop is full of potential Christmas presents and the museum is an amazing place to visit too!

Karyn Moynihan from the Sweet Valley High podcast Double Love returns to the podcast to talk about the 1993 video store staple Demolition Man. Alan and Karyn have seen it many, many times. Sarah just watched it for the first time. We have a lot to talk about. For instance, Sylvester's Stallone's neck: why is it so big? Why is seeing real things blow up more satisfying than seeing CG things blow up? Does Denis Leary know he's in a movie? and  lots more.

Karyn is @redlemonader. You can, and should, find Double Love on all good podcast apps.

Dublin rapper Nealo joins Alan and guest co-host Andrea Cleary to talk about his teenage love of pop punk. We talk about the supremacy of Blink 182, wishing you went to an American high school, the incelly vibe to a LOT of the lyrics, the differences between Dublin scene kids and rural scene kids, Blast, and a whole lot more.

Listening note: Alan's dogs were in the room while he was recording so you can occasionally hear a soft bark or snore, sorry about that. Also this episode was recorded over zoom and everybody drifts a lil bit in and out of sync sometimes. We're not being rude and talking over each other, we're all just trying out best.

Nealo is @NellydaSilla on Twitter. His debut album All The Leaves Are Falling is out Oct 30th.

Andrea is @AndreaCeary_. You can hear her on the Nialler9 podcast and subscribe to her newsletter at andreacleary.substack.com

Writer and Podcaster Rosemary MacCabe joins Alan and Andrea to talk about an extremely divisive part of the Star Wars universe that is dear to Rosemary's heart, the Ewoks. We talk about the Ewok spinoff movies Caravan Of Courage and Battle For Endor and about how none of us would be good film critics. It's a nice time.

Rosemary is @RosemaryMacCabe everywhere. She hosts the podcasts Not Without My Sister and How To Be Sound and she also has a hugely popular Patreon

This was our first episode back on Zoom and there was a lil technical hiccup with the audio which means you might find it a bit quiet in places. Sorry about that, the next one will be aurally dazzling.

Conner Habib is an author, lecturer, sex workers' rights advocate and the host of Against Everyone with Conner Habib. He joined us to talk about the work of Clive Barker. Sarah and Alan were new to the world of Barker so we mostly stuck to two of his best-known works, Hellraiser and Candyman. We also touched on lots of other stuff though including Books Of Blood, gore  and discomfort, and the larger Hellraiser universe. It was a really interesting conversation and hopefully you'll all go check out Candyman because it's v v good.
