Juvenalia

Podcaster and radio host Cian Sullivan joins us to talk about Eurovision! Eurovision is huge and we are small so we dipped in and out of the bits that interested us, Cian took us through his Eurovision score card, told us what it was like to see Eurovision live, and of course we paid our respects to Riverdance.

Cian is @ciansullivan on twitter. You can listen to him on Sissy That Pod and Umbrella.

Alan is @alan_maguire.  Juvenalia is his main thing right now.

We made it to 100! We would have liked to do a live show to celebrate but well *gestures in any direction* so instead Alan, Sarah, and Ellen(!) got together on Zoom to talk about some of their favourite things from the years they were born (1984, 1988, and 1992 respectively). So what are those things? Well there's This Is Spinal Tap, The Secret History, Red Dwarf, The Replacements, Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and Barney along with a live reading of some Barney creepypasta. It was extremely nice to have the OG Juvenalia Three back together. We hope you like it too. Thanks for sticking around for a hundred episodes.

Naoise Dolan, author of the Sunday Times Bestseller Exciting Times joins us to talk about Gossip Girl! It was an absolutely FASCINATING chat about watching high school-based dramas as an autistic woman and viewing characters’ behaviours through that lens. We hope you enjoy it XOXO

NB This episode was recorded in February before everything went down, we didn’t break self-isolation to do this, we are all extremely isolated. We hope you are ok.

Music writer Dean Van Nguyen joins us to talk about the bit of pop culture that looms large in his childhood: MTV Base. In our last episode we flirted with doing a whole episode about a TV channel but this week we're going all in. We talked about Beats, Rhymes, and Life, The Lick, Jay Z vs Nas, Napster, Destiny's Child, the legacy of Jackass, and much more.

We're still self-isolating and recording remotely so please forgive any technical hiccups or sound oddities.

Writer, broadcaster, and DJ Jenn Gannon joins us to talk about one of the foundational bits of pop culture from her youth, Interbang?! We hadn't heard of it either. Interbang?! was an Italian one series wonder that aired on The Children's Channel in the late 80s. It's hard to explain. Here's an episode

As well as Interbang?!, we also go down a deep rabbit hole of reading the list of shows that aired on The Children's Channel. It was a trip.

This is the first episode we've recorded remotely because of The Situation so please forgive any technical hiccups or sound oddities.

Andy Gaffney of Be Grand joins us to talk about a film that's been very important to him since he was a mere teen, Cameron Crowe's Vanilla Sky. Andy is @HiAndyGaffney. His podcast Be Grand is brilliant, Alan's been on it. You should check out the other shows on his network, The Shift.
