One new case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in the Greater Geelong council area this afternoon, bringing the city’s total to 57.

It was originally reported there had been no changes in local cases today however an update from the Department of Health on Wednesday afternoon confirmed the inclusion of the new case.

A technical error has been blamed for the incorrect data being released.

Across the wider region there has been no change in total cases with nine along the Surf Coast, 27 at Wyndham and just one in the Golden Plains.

Total cases recorded across the state overnight is also unchanged at 21 for a total of 1,212.

We have been asked to stay home this Easter weekend.

Dr Sam lives in Geelong and works in Melbourne in the ER.
He checked into the Departure Lounge with Stampsy and Josh, in between shifts, with his insight into the fight against Covid-19 and the conditions he faces daily.
Dr Sam has an important message for Geelong.

Over 5,000 Australians are currently undergoing mandatory quarantine in hotel rooms and other accommodation around the country after returning to Australia amid the coronavirus pandemic.

State and territory leaders agreed to forcibly isolate returning overseas travellers in hotels for 14 days.

One of those people who returned home is expat Patrick Zippel.  After years working and travelling around the globe, he explains what life is like inside his hotel room and why he decided to board a flight back to Australia.
