Habib Jalib ran into Hafeez Jalandhari in Anarkali, Lahore. Jalandhari, who was the Director General of Morals in the Pakistan Armed Forces and an adviser to General Ayub Khan told Jalib that he was very busy and pointing up said that he had become an advisor. Jalib sarcastically asked him, “Advisor to God?”. Jalandhari retorted, no advisor to Ayub Khan and said that he had advised Ayub Khan that these people only understand the stick - so he should take a stick to all the lawyers and students who are protesting and also to the poet who keeps saying “main nahin manta, main nahin janta”. Jalib penned this poem in response.
