  • Flood

The sermon delivered by Dr. Sam Long was part of a series titled “A Soggy Gospel” (41:53).

His message focused on the biblical account of Noah and the Flood (42:56-44:26), contrasting it with ancient Near Eastern flood myths like the Epic of Gilgamesh. Key takeaways from his sermon included:

The Nature of God: Unlike other ancient flood stories where gods were depicted as capricious or annoyed by humanity, the Bible portrays God as heartbroken over the corruption and violence within His creation (44:48-46:58).
Faith as Action: Dr. Long emphasized that Noah serves as an example of faithfulness through action (47:24-49:50). Noah’s decision to build the ark was an act of trust and obedience to God’s command, even when it seemed illogical (48:36-50:35).
Modern Application: He encouraged the congregation to be “modern-day Noahs” by living blameless and pure lives in today’s world (53:57-55:20). He suggested that faithfulness is often found in small, everyday deeds of love and kindness rather than just grand gestures (57:42-58:05).

    • Mission Trip Recaps

Annie Ponstein participated in a 9-month gap year program with Bridge Street Ministries (44:32), an organization based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, that focuses on urban youth ministry (45:32).

As part of this year-long experience, she and her team traveled to Guatemala for two months (48:40), where they served in the following ways:

Community Engagement: She worked with middle school programs in North Side, West Side, and Burton Heights during the school year (45:48).
La Manada Slums: While in Guatemala, Annie and her team visited schools known as Planus to serve children of gang members and leaders (50:26-50:41). They led activities such as coloring, dancing, and playing games like Duck Duck Goose (50:51-51:27).
Sego Vivo Church: She supported the Sego Vivo church, a ministry dedicated to serving homeless individuals in Guatemala (52:55-53:14).

Annie described her overall experience as one rooted in intentional community living and silent servitude (47:03, 49:06).

The KCC mission team to Africa worked closely with Ann and Todd (the Ziems) and the Son-International Ministries (1:02:43). Their experience involved several key service efforts:

Community and Connection: The team spent time building relationships with local people, including serving at a workshop (1:02:41) and trekking up a mountain as a group, which the members cited as a major team-building experience (1:03:55-1:04:58).
Cultural Immersion: The team visited a Maasai village (1:08:44), where they experienced local living conditions and were given the honor of naming newborn babies (1:09:59-1:10:40).
Challenges and Trust: The trip was marked by various logistical hurdles—including customs and immigration difficulties (1:13:03-1:13:58)—which the team used as opportunities to practice fully trusting in God’s plan rather than relying on their own control (1:11:15, 1:14:06).

The team emphasized that despite the lack of material wealth, the people they met in Africa shared a profound sense of gratitude, family, and courage, which left a lasting impact on the group members (1:06:32-1:07:35).

        • 3 Men in Chains

          Key Scripture: Philemon

          Speaker: Andy Bratton

Big Idea: We are free in Christ Jesus, yet we are still living in a world looking for prisoners.  If we forget where our freedom comes from, the enemy may capture us.

          Facts:

Onesimus was a slave who ran away
Onesimus met Paul, who introduced him to Jesus
Onesimus is being sent back to his master
Paul offers to pay for what was lost

            Hidden Truths:

              Philemon was wealthy
              Philemon hosted a house church
              Philemon was from Colossae
              Onesimus took something from Philemon

              Irony:

Philemon met Paul, who introduced him to Jesus
Philemon is at a crossroads to forgive
All 3 main characters were prisoners

                Application:

Fact: You and I have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory
Hidden Truths: You and I have surrendered
Irony:  To have life, we must die

Our lives are a story of recognition, repentance, and regeneration.  And sometimes we need reminded of it.

                • Magnetize or Polarize

Big Idea: Satan’s biggest weapon against the church is division.  He knows that dividing a family of believers can be easy and an effective way to halt the spread of the Gospel.

                  Division happens because of…

                  Numbers 16:1-3;12-14

Pride like Korah – Numbers 16

                    1 Corinthians 1:10-13

                      Confusion like Corinth

                      Acts 14:1-7

                        Jealousy like the Judaizers

                        Manage Conflict

                        Act like men

                        Give God Glory

                        Nose Grinder

                        Encourager

                        Task Master

We are called to magnetize by magnifying Jesus.

                      1. Squirrel!

                        Key Scripture: 2 Samuel

                        Speaker: Andy Bratton

Big Idea: There are times that instead of directly lying to us, the enemy will use things of the world to distract us from the better thing.

                        2 Samuel 11:1-5

                          Desires of the flesh

                          2 Samuel 15:1-6

                            Pride and ambition

                            2 Samuel 11:3; 23:34; 15:12; 17:1-4,14,23

                              Desire for justice

                              so…

Be careful little eyes what you see – Remove

Be careful little knees where you bow – Resist

Be careful little heart whom you trust – Remember

For the Father up above is looking down in love

                            1. A Little Misdirection

                              Key Scripture: Genesis 3; 1 Timothy 4:1

                              Speaker: Andy Bratton

Big Idea: The enemy is a great deceiver.  He tries to make wrong things look alright and right things look unimportant or not necessary.

                                Deception by lying
                                Deception by implying
                                Deception by villifying

Receipt is the best defense against deceit.

                                  Reception of exhortation
                                  Reception of sanctification
                                  Reception of castigation

Satan’s goal is destruction and our best defense is instruction.

                                  Key Scripture: Hebrews 12-13

                                  Speaker: Andy Bratton

Big Idea: We keep running because the finish line is worth whatever we endure.

                                  Hebrews 12:1-4

                                    Run with direction

                                    Hebrews 12:-5-6,11-14,16

                                      Run with discipline

                                      Hebrews 13:1-9

                                        Run with determination

                                        Benediction – Hebrews 13:20-21

There is a race to run, that follows a path, that ends at a place where Perfect stands.

                                      2. Hebrews 10

                                        Vs. 1-18:

The Law was only a Reflection not the Reality

                                        Animal sacrifice Cannot forgive Sins

Jesus Christ made One sacrifice, for All people, for All time

                                        Vs.19-25:

Let us draw near to God

Let us Hold onto the Hope we Profess

                                        Let us Encourage one another

Let us not Quit hanging out

                                        Vs. 26-31:

Death and Destruction awaits those who Reject Jesus

                                        Vs. 32-39:

This world can’t Touch our Freedom in Christ Jesus, our Future with God, or our True Home in heaven
