  • Partiality
The wise men’s hearts were overshadowed by worship. Are they magi? (Daniel 1:20, 2:5, 2:24)Are they wise men? (1 Kings 10:7,9-10)Are they kings? (Isaiah 39:6, 60:10)Herod’s heart was overshadowed by worry and fear.King of the Jews?Builder and baby killer? (Matthew 2:16)The Priests and Scribes’ hearts were overshadowed by confusion. (Matthew 2:5-6)If they knew about Jesus why didn’t they worship Him?Why information without action?
Do you seek Him as a magi, wise man, or king?Make being overshadowed by Jesus a lifelong journey.

  • A Divine Invitation – Breakfast on the Beach
Sermon Scripture:  Luke 21; Acts 2
Sermon Big Idea:  Peter, the fisherman, is called to fish for men. He shares his testimony of Jesus while frying fish on an open fire.
Why did Jesus say 2 swords were enough?Do you think Peter’s denial of Christ was prompted by fear or confusion? What is your comfort zone or security blanket that may be hindering you from serving Christ fully? Was 153 the largest catch Peter and the Apostles were involved with? (Hint: See Acts 2:14-41)Did the early church enjoy religious freedom? Was Jesus’ plan to take over the world by force? Or to win each heart and soul with love?

  • A Divine Smackdown
    Sermon Scripture:  Luke 11:37-54
Sermon Big Idea:  The key is to clean the inside first by being persistent, united, enguard, a doer, repentant, and a light.  Then we will have the keys to open the gate and to not hinder others from entering.
Jesus teaches us how to disciple:
Be persistent in prayer (Luke 11:1-13)Be united (Luke 11:14-23)Be on watch (Luke 11:24-26)Be hearers and doers (Luke 11:27-28)Be repentant (Luke 11:29-32)Be lights (Luke 11:33-36)
As we are those things, we will clean the inside so that the outside is really clean not a false sense of clean. (Luke 11:37-44)As we are those things, we will not stand as accusers but as accused and therefore have the keys to knowledge. (Luke 11:45-52)
To be a disciple is to release Jesus in our life, not catch Him and keep Him from the world.  (Luke 11:53-54)

  • What do I do if My Candidate Loses?
We might think we know how things are supposed to happen, but always be ready for God to do something we don’t expect.
Adonijah was presumptuous. (1 Kings 1:5-10)Bathsheba was preserving self. (1 Kings 1:11-14,16-17,20-21)God had a plan. (1 Chronicles 28:3,5-6)David was giving praise. (1 Kings 1:48)Present fulfillment (2 Samuel 23:5)Future fulfillment (Acts 2:30-31)Eternal fulfillment (Psalm 39:5,7)
We praise God on Wednesday for what He has done today, will do in the future, and what He has planned for eternity.  In short, when our candidate is Jesus, we will never lose and always have reason to rejoice.
